Talking gauge cluster millage question

im having a issue with my 05 rx8 tach ...i have purchased a used cluster an my question is ....is the millage stored in the cars ecu or the cluster it self?...so will my car display the millage witch was on the used cluster?....or will there be a conflict between the ecu an the used cluster?

Its all stored in ECU.

This is not 1990. almost all cars after 1991 store their stuff in ECU.

actually no. I think its stored in the cluster.
pretty much all the cars still have the millage stored in the cluster, unless you have those fancy LCD display cluster.

in order for you to properly install a new cluster you need to go to a Mazda dealer or some who has the Mazda tool and transfer the mileage to the new cluster.

it most likely wont show anything until you get it to shake hands with the CAN bus. which you cant do without the Mazda tool.

are you sure? cuz I looked at the dash circuit board a while ago and I don't remember seeing anything that allows the cluster to store any data/information ?
