Question GAS Mileage analysis??? by Mazda???

I just came back from my dealer and complained about poor gas milage (average about 15 MPG), and I asked him about the latest flash. He said that they would have to download some sort of mileage analysis data or program from Mazda on High. Also they would have to check about any latest flashes.

I know that people get worse than this, but there has to be a reason.

I don't drive every stoplight like a drag strip and I don't down shift from 6 to 4 just to pass somebody.

Is it just this vin series?

Any body have this MPG analysis done by Mazda, or is this the new service buz word for "We don't care about your poor a$$ gas mileage, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH"?

I think I'll fill her up and just do some FWY drivin to see what it is.

its just a driving test done by the mechanic. i know Howard i think had one done. 15 may be poor to you but it is not far if at all outside the range of teh epa estimate. have you ever taken a long highway cruise at 65mph cruise on for a whole tank?

I think 15 would actually be considered pretty good in the real world, compared to the 18 EPA which most people would be hard pressed to get. I get 15 and I'm not complaining. As long as I don't have to fill up more than once a week, I'm happy. Now if you got 13 or less, then I'd complain.

No not just a MPG run. But as noted in my original post I was going to do just that and read what happened. I posted in the West Region

Well, mayber an accident was avoided. I'm still trying to cool down over this.

I guess you could say complaining, but I really just want see if I can get the latest flash. It's like pulling cat's hind teeth.

It's not stalling or have a rough Idle.

I have gotten 13, but not all the time. If they can do something about it great, if not I know the price of having bad (good) car. :D

Is the car new?

Drive it on the highway.

Sounds like your accerating too fast. It guzzels gas if you use the pedal. Calm down and you'll get 18 for sure.

15pmg? Wow, is that all in the city? The worst I've gotten is 16 but I wasn't exactly feather light on the gas with that tank. I spend a lot of time on the highway and usually get 20-21. I got 23 out of the last tank after a cop introduced me to cruise control. No fun at all, but cheaper.

I was getting 11-mpg in town until I had the "P" Flash.
Now I'm getting 18-mpg in town.

I was never able to get better than 15 with mixed driving. After P flash, I am able to get 17.7 while driving the car hard. I will shift at redline several times a day, and hover over 5000 rpm for extended periods. I am very happy with this improvement.

Although there are conflicting results or statements about it...I think that the P flash is responisble for my mileage improvement, as well as the added midrange grunt. Throttle response is much quicker, BUT N flash removed the bog when I would shift. Now it's back. When accelerating at WOT, if I don't bang the shift and get it back to the floor when I engage the clutch....the engine bogs down, and then snaps back. That was gone before, but its back. I feel another flash coming down the pipe soon....

I used to get 18 city in Atlanta, but for some reason I get 20 city in Austin. Dunno the reasons; not gonna ask. Nothing changed but the gas stations.

15mpg sucks...but it is in the EPA's range, which was listed on the window of your 8 when you got it.

I too think that people with 13mpg cars need to raise a big stink but from experience (watching vid's here) I can tell you that alot of people have nothing to blame but themselves for their poor gas.

It seems some 8's get 13mpg regardless of driving style but (again) I've never gotten less than 18.7mpg in all city driving. I average 19.2mpg during the life of my 8 and I've never taken it on a long trip...which I'm dying to do.

Oh, and I’m not shy of the 9K joy either but with normal traffic and what I consider normal driving for me I shift at 4K normally and shift from 4 to 6th gear when cruising. Since I’ve owned the car I have barley used 5th gear at all.

Hopefully you will figure out what's going on.
