Front End Rattle
So I have searched, and it seems to me that I might be able to suspect that my endlinks are causing this metal on metal sound when I go over a decent pothole or something. I took the wheel off yesterday to look for something, but nothing was loose feeling except this little control arm, so I tightened it up, and then I got a light for the automatic head light adjusters. However, the rattle got quieter, for a bit, then it got worse so I took the thing off and it got way better, but the rattle is still there...
Any ideas...?
My other question is, if it is the endlinks (I'll just get stock ones), does it matter much how much I torque them, any specs on that?

Hmmm funny how you got this problem. I spotted this on Finishline just this weekend:
NOISE FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE / STABILIZER CONTROL LINK BROKEN
If it is that, take it in for warranty. It affects all 8s until the 2008 models.

At least you have an idea what's going on
BTW, what sort of sound does it make when you hit a pothole? I've been cruising more with the windows down lately and on some particular roads that have an echo effect, I can hear a quick metal-to-metal contact sound from the suspension on broken pavement- I had been thinking that it's normal mechanical noise from a precision-tuned suspension (hey this is my first sports car) or something along that note LOL.

It is a metal on metal sound that is coming only from the driver side wheel it seems.
kinda of a higher pitched: clinkity tank
It should be quite basically, I don't know about your metal on metal sound, hmm... What do you mean an echo sound? Like a hollow low pitched noise? that should be normal.

The only sound I'm hearing from the suspension is from the inbound stroke of the spring/strut and there is only once sound/note for each significant dip in the road. It sounds like a metal click.
Am I just being paranoid? I've only driven cars with rubbery suspension prior to the 8 so this could just be normal hehe..

The noise you are hearing I think is the brake and Disc protector the flimsy bit of metal around that area. My last 2 RX8's have both had this noise and I just bend that plate a little back and it goes away but still comes back. Drives me mental, thinking about just removing it.. Good luck I hope this works for you and other worried 8 owners...

I just purchased my 05 RX-8 yesterday and noticed a high pitched rattle from the frontend when going over bumbs and potholes. Strange enough it goes away after a while. I did a walk around and noticed the plastic "Gill" insert in the fenders are really loose. Normal?

Rattle from Skid Guard
Rattle / Squeak hunting. 2005 GT - Found a possible source for some of my under carriage rattles that my local garage can't seem to pin point. Can anyone tell me what size bolts or fasteners hold the plastic skid guard? These seem larger than the side bolts. Photos to come in a bit

I had this exact thing, it's a very tinny clanging rattle sound and just as Mr Franco said it's the stone guard/brake rotor protector thing. I just got a screwdriver and pressed inward towards the engine bay on it at the edge and bent it away from the wheel and it went away.

I too had a very clanky noise every time I hit the slightest bump. It turned out that my brake pads had no shims and were slapping around. As soon as I bought some shims and installed them, the noise disappeared. Then I discovered that those little silver brackets that the pads' tabs fit into are also a source of noise because they also tend to move around, at least on my car they do. They would make kind of creaky-creaky sound when I applied the brakes. I dobbed a little high temp silicone on the bottom of each of those brackets and stuck them back into place on the caliper. It's all nice and quiet now.
Edit: Didn't realize the original post was so old. Hopefully somebody gets something useful out of this.
