Also, I had a 40 series Flowmaster on mine for a little bit back in '05. Sounded great but there's one problem...Flowmasters aren't built to withstand the kinda of heat produced by our engine...Flowmaster will even tell you personally. I melted all the baffles in the muffler in about 6 months, then it sounded like pure ****. Then I went and got a real exhaust. Good luck...

That rear bumper looks horrible IMO... You can buy a rear bumper on ebay for about 250-300 btw

First I would like to apologies if I have offended any of you with my emergency surge that I performed on my 8, but like I said I was involved in a parking lot hit and run. I also am in the beginning of a 6 week layoff; they often do this to welders in the boating field around this time of year. So with money tight 200 to 300 on eBay sounds nice but they almost always have at least 150 shipping plus you will need a good paint job for about 300 so we are now at 750 conservatively. Now don’t get me wrong I will be getting a new bumper after my involuntary vacation is over it just seemed better to do this for the next six weeks instead of riding around with one of my port tips missing like some broke *** ride. When I was hit it tore off the top mounting brackets pic is enclosed the bumper was already ruined at that point. I am keeping my eyes out on Craig’s list for RX8 part outs in Kansas City and St. Louis and the Rx8 club for a good deal on a stock one so if anyone knows of a good deal let a fellow 8 lover know.

I wish it were that simple but they broke off the top mounting slots

This is my concern too for all the people out there that think any old muffler will work on a rotary engine car. In my 30+ years of experience with the rotary, I have found that not a lot, if any conventional mufflers will last. Your going to find that out. So start saving your money for a real exhaust system.

I do thank the folks at BHR for their advice but I have bought the 44 not the 40 and there is a huge difference between the two The 44 is 409S Stainless Steel and fully MIG-welded for maximum durability. 4" Thick x 9.5" Wide x 13" Long. This is their highest performing street muffler that is by far thick enough to withstand the heat at 16 gauges. I also personally TIG welded all my bends in the shop I work at using only high quality stainless steel rod. If this muffler fails me down the road I will post this finding and immediately and take a look at your BHR high cost high end exhaust system. No matter how much I spend on the rennie my RX8 will always look like steak taste like chicken. (Just ballin on a budget)

You're not getting it...Flowmaster is not designed for the rotary engine heat, period. You'll see...have fun anyways.

I completly understand what you are say but some jerk-off busted my bumper and stock muffler and bailed, leaving me 1000 worth of damage and it just happend to all go down while I am laid off for 6 weeks as soon as I back to work I will replace my bumper. Yes I do plan on replacing the Flow Master but I am going to ride it till I kill it however long that takes. So I do not recomend the flow master 44 because we dont fully know what the life span is going to be. I just see this as a cheap experiment. So when I do melt the dam thing we will all have a thread to point to and say this is what you can expect. So far 3 weeks in no issue inculding a 600mi round trip to Kansas City all highway doing 80 on Avg

TX

There are a couple of 8 owners here that have been running off the shelf Borla mufflers on a custom exhaust setup for quite a long time without any issues.

Why can't I embed pictures in this thread? Anyway here is a pic.

When and if this Flow Master craps out I will also cut it open and post the pics so there is no question of what happens to this style of street mufflers

Maybe you can buy those 2 pieces kersh4w is selling and find an alternative way to mount them?
Maybe its time to bring out the krazy glue..

At the risk of becoming even more back woods with glue on my sports car I will wait for Kansas City or St.Louis to produce a part out. Before this happend I had seen them sell on Craigs List for as low as 50-100 bucks no dents. So I will keep my fingers crossed that some 16year old girl puts the front of her 8 in someones back bumper
