I noticed the sound when I was picking mine up at the dealer. The service manager was not sure so we got the keys to a few others and all did the same.No problem with trans it is just nature of the trans. Trust me I will be the first to bitch if I find another problem. They had to replace my engine at 600 miles for a coolant leak. But this is not a problem. I have had my share of problems but it still a cool car for the money!

I think you are just being pacified....given a placebo...

Oh and Stras.....man...with that kind of attitude, I guess you have many people rushing to help you out all time....wow. All I know is, what goes around comes around....maybe the ripped seat was a kind gesture from the service guys that you enlightened with your prescence......

Pacified or not,when the work's done,we'll see,right?
If the f*cking part gets here the answer'll be clear.....grrrrr.....
I've found you get better treatment when you're nice to the dealers,I bring cases of beer when I pick up my cars in the pms.
(I get righteous treatment after the first case, believe it!)
This is my 1st visit to this dealership over this car.
Pissed at their parts acquisition timeline or not,the service guys didn't do anything but work on my car-hence a case of microbrews
for 'em.....
On the other hand,if I could get their parts distributor, who "overnighted" my parts "twice",with none arriving,I'd tell him to pluck head from **** and shape UP.
It should be done tomorrow.

I wish everybody was like you....I could use some brewskis at my dealer....

Oh my god, I know exactly what you mean!! My RX-8 is defective, too!! Whenever I accelerate to about 8500 RPMs, there's this funny "beep" noise. I told my dealer I'd sue their asses if they didn't fix it, brought my service manager a bottle of Crown, and they are ordering me a new flux capacitor and muffler bearing to fix the problem.

That's how you get things done. Word.

I too would like to shut him up.
I don't know why but I am still laughing at this and I am wiping away tears as I type.

When the clutch is out (ie - pedal out), there is no load on the bearing. It wouldn't make noise then, but that is when you are hearing it.

Also, for those of us that have been under the car while it is running, the noise comes from the transmission gear case and not the bell housing where the disengagement bearing is located with the clutch and pressure plate.

It's refreshing to see that someone else here understands how clutches and manual transmissions actually work.

However I trust MazdaManiac a lot based on his posts so....I'm not scared.

As MazdaManiac and bobclevenger stated.

My first gen RX7 has the noise, my 2nd gen had a much worse crunchy noise until the clutch pedal was pushed in, (before the bearing packed it in) and my RX8 has the noise.

Likely the input shaft bearing, and I'm not worried.

I think some have claimed the dealer replaced the throwout bearing, and the noise went away. What did the dealer really replace, if anything?

Well, I sort of alluded to this above, but it is likely that they replaced the tranny oil with a lighter oil or even diluted it with a few ounces of ATF.

Ok look I did not come here to pick a fight and for the record when I said I drove a 100mph back to the dealer it was cus they were gonna be closed at 9pm and I wanted them to see the rip right away so there would be no questions about it.with the grease on my new pants and a hole in the seat.
they were closing when I got there and the sales guy said"oh no!!!" and ran to get the general manager.I was not mean or did I appear to have an attitude other than looking really sad.

the manager assured me I would get a new seat.
thoose were his words not mine.
He said "dumb monkey left a screw driver in his pocket"
He was mad
I was glad

next day
I take the car in at 12:00 pm talk to the service manager he knows nothing of last night......
we go to the general managers office and he comfirms what I have told the service manager.
he follows us back out to the shop saying how sorry he was and that it never should have happened ..blah blah blah

so as I said when I arrived back to pick up the car the service manager waved from accross the shop and said "your all set"
and the service writer said "all done we switched it"
printed me a reciept that said seat changed per gen man.

and they lied and again in writing

so knucklehead who exactly was the victim here me or them or you??

and I'm not even gonna read anymore of this thread it is for sure doing the forum no good.
I am sorry I expressed how I felt after being lied to by a car dealer.
Like I'm the only one a dealer ever lied to.
and for the record I am a bussiness man and owned several shops in the 70's including a Texaco eight bay gas station and I never out right lied to a customer.
car dealers have a bad rep cus they do lie
and thats all there is on this issue.
I look to learn from this forum and get the skinny on issues relating to my toy.and don't wish to offend or be a problem child
the end. happy eights to everyone

I got back from the dealer a little while ago.
The t/o bearing WAS bad,I saw and felt it myself,so there IS an issue.

That being said, the ******* that did the job forgot to finish attaching the exhaust, which blew 1/2-off on my way home.

Guess where I'll be at 8a.m.?

This guy is not only quite a storyteller and student of embellishment, but he is a professional stand-up comedian. He really is hilarious.

Did you actually see them remove the TB they let you handle?

If not, I guarantee you that you were "phone booked". That is an old computer geek term for a technique to ensure that a soon-to-be-warrantee'd component is completely unusable.
You were either handed and bad TB from another RX-8 (or a Miata or older RX-7 which uses the same TB), or possibly one from another model altogether. If not, the TB that was pulled from you car was immediately hit with a flat-blade screwdriver and a torch.
That is just how it is done in ALL garages. You NEVER allow a good component to be removed from a car. Either it comes out defective or you make it so.
Can you imagine how pissed you would be if they pulled it out, they handed it to you and said "Sorry, it was actually OK."?

I knew that "beep" noise was abnormal! I also suspected that there were problems with the muffler bearings... Dammit! How long before the recall, or at least a TSB? I called my dealer today, and he said he'd prefer a bottle of Jack Daniels... But I need to know - doesn't adding the CanZoomer stage 1 cause the flux capacitor to freak out? Inquiring minds want to - hell need to know!:D

It will make a lot of noise when you press the clutch in and it might make it difficult to release the clutch.
Eventually, it will bind and break the fingers on the clutch pressure plate.
