I was driving my car earlier today and it was fine...then I see a movie and when I come out and start my car I can notice it doesn't sound right. Then I notice the RPM's dipping then going back up and repeating, then it stalled almost, I pushed the clutch in and stopped it.

I've read a lot of similar threads on this subject and the most common cause is spark plugs correct? Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm out of warranty with Mazda now so I'd like to try to avoid their outrageous prices if I can.

Also, I had my car running with my doors open and all the lights on and when the RPM's would dip all my lights would flutter and dim then come back on. I don't know if that's relevant but seemed unusual.

What year is your car?
How many miles?
What has been done for Maintenance?
Any other mods, other than those in your sig?

Guessing you are an 04-05 as u r out of warranty.

I would say:
Plugs
Coils
Just to start with.....

My car is an 06 and I'm at 53k miles and I just have those mods in my sig. As far as maintenance I had my car in to Mazda around 48k I believe and had them inspect plugs and coils and such to see if they needed replacement before my warranty was up and they say everything was fine.

It kind of went out of my head since then because I've been dealing with little problems here and there unrelated to the engine.

 

Kinda same issue I'm having. I'm doing plugs and wires and if that doesn't fix it I'm gonna do coils even though they only have 40,000 miles on all of it
