Engine Lite on..Possible Oil?

Well 2 days ago I was visiting my friend that just recently graduated. I just noticed then that my Engine Light turned on. I am now wondering if this is an OIL Problem. I have an 04 AT (YES I KNOW ABOUT THE BAD REMARKS!)
So anyway I bought this car about 2months ago from a used car dealership and they told me they leave the car as is and everything. Do you guys think its recommended I get an Oil Change?
Just to tell you, I brought it to a Mazda Dealership about a week ago for a new tire since the other one was ripped inside not accepting Air. I don't know if they did an Oil Change.

have you checked the oil levels?
have you filled up recently? (loose gas cap = engine light...quite common)

no problem at all, I'm here to help.

Have you checked the oil dipstick to see how much oil is left? The RX-8 actually has a different light that comes on when you're low on oil.

Have you put gasoline in your car since you bought it? After you've filled up, you need to line up the gas cap, and turn it until you hear THREE little clicks. If you did not tighten enough, the car can give you an engine light.

My dad actually did tell me about that gas Cap situation..I will check it tonight. Thanks. But no I have not checked the Dip stick. I will check that too. But on the Gauge its been at a stable 1/2 ever since I bought it.

the oil guage on the RX-8 does not actually work. It is what's considered a "dummy guage", it will always stay at the same spot.

Since the light is already on, you should go to the dealership and have them pull the codes from your car to see what caused the engine light. If it's the gas cap, they will clear the code and send your car home. (for free as long as you still have your warrantee)

I don't have an Automatic BUT my manual does beep at me when I approach redline. (beeps at 8,500) Maybe the A/T's have something similar???

Let your car cool down for a while, make sure it's on a level surface, and check the oil level. after that, check the gas cap

if the problem was the gas cap, it still takes a few drive cycles before the light goes off.

just go to a local automotive store and ask them to read your odb2 CAN codes

Isnt that its common sense to change all the fluid upon new(or used) car delivery ?

but anyway, go any local garage or Autozone (if theres one nearby) and pull the OBDII code out.
