Engine has died, end if the road for this one?

Hi
Looks like my 231 maybe scrapped, I have been complaining to my local Mazda dealership about a low rpm rattle from the engine on acceleration (I told them that I believed it was spark knock).

Well last week the engine started misfiring and back firing and basically there is no compression on the forward rotor.

I have ordered a new car (obviously not a Mazda) and I am trying to decide on whether the car should be parted out and scrapped or maybe I could rebuild it through the winter.

My biggest issue is that there is no decent rotary specialist within a 5 hour drive (the mazda dealership are useless) so I was thinking on the basis of further support after I have rebuilt, is this car too much of a pain in the rear?

I live in the UK.

Thanks

Antony

I have just done some messing around with my rx8 and found that one apex seal is stuck on the rotor. The other two spring nicely and the third is stuck.

I managed to borescope it and found that the negative tang on one of the spark plugs is missing and guess what! Its lodged in the apex seal preventing it from sealing against the housing.

It looks like a strip down?

Its crazy to me to think that someone would scrap a car because the engine went bad. That's just ridiculous. Sell the car to someone that would fix it and appreciate it. When the engine went on my 8 I replaced it and I enjoy the car the same as I did when I bought it. Its a wonderful car!

I'm sure that's frustrating. Though I've yet to need one in over ten years of ownership, I don't know if I could keep the car without having a good rotary mechanic within an hour's drive.
