ECU and warranty

This was passed down to me by my RX-8 mechanics, my Mazda Master Techs, Service Manager, and regional tech rep for Mazda.

If you alter or reprogram the ECU the warranty is void. No if, ands, or buts about it.

One of my master techs is looking into, but he was told that the oboard computers keep a log of when any of the computers were access. Hes not 100% sure, but I trust his word for what it is.

Im not saying dont do it, Im just saying be willing to pay the price if you get caught. I dont want to step on peoples toes, because I dont know much about piggyback systems and reprograming for the RX8, but there just doesnt seem to be enough warning about the problems that can arise.

The RX-8s (especially with the Nav systems) are a computer nightmare. We had one that through 22 different codes at one time. 18 of which were RX-8 specifiic. And, no, I dont know what they were exactly. Mostly undervoltage and misreading sensors.

From someone who deals with Mazda Hotline and reps on a daily basis, take this advice, and just be willing to pay the price. Mazda loves these cars with a passion and are eyeballing every problem that arises. I had a cat go bad with 800 miles and the next day Mazda wanted the cat sent to them prioirty.

Just be careful.

Replay? You have to forgive me, I must have missed something.

And no, Im not telling you not to miss with your cars. I am all about tuning up cars, its just that I see a lot of people who drop components in thier cars and then something goes wrong and we cant do anything because the problems are being casued by the aftermarket mod and then I (as well as any service writer) get yelled at because we wont cover it.

I just wanted to pass a forewarning out is all. Im not here to tell you what and what not to do. Personally I would like to see an RX8 was some mods like those on the older RX-7s. There is a lot of potential in these cars.

Just wanted to let you guys know how Mazda and the dealerships will be working with the mods. Im also hear to give you the insight from our perspective and to offer any service help that I can. Not to bust your bubbles. If someone gets a 250HP at the wheels RX8, God knows I want drive it.

So, no harm meant.
