ECU clear/Reset
I completed the ECU clear/Reset on my 2004 RX8 tonight due to the P0610 error code.
Well I ran into some problems.. it jumped my odometer 39,000 miles... from 60,000 to 99,000
The car seems to be running really hot and the speedometer is WAY off.. i'll be idling and it will say im going 40mph...
I followed the directions to a T.
Any help on this would be appreciated..

^sounds like you need a new PCM
That code refers to a software malfunction
Someone on this forum ended up getting the pcm replaced

How do you change the rear O2 sensor?
I got a CEL yesterday morning with a code of P0037 which I know is the rear O2 sensor. I believe it is telling me that it needs to be replaced. However, I had just filled up my car with gas the evening before I got the CEL. So, I checked the gas cap to be sure it was tightened. In fact, I removed it and replaced it to be sure it was screwed on properly, but I am still getting the CEL. It looks like I will probably end up replacing the rear O2 sensor. I have read a thread here that I can get one for around $80 on ebay so I will check that out. Is this something that I should be able to replace myself? If I have to drop the gas tank or something else major then I will end up going to the dealer (groan). Thanks for any help in advance.

Thanks for this thread before my fuel pump went out I was running extreamly lean and had been unknowingly since I bought it. before and affter the fule pump replacement the idle would bounce between 1000 and 500. On top of that I replaced the exhaust and intake with the new pump still had the problem untill to day I did both resets and smooth idle this club rocks thanks for all the help

ECU codes
Hey Guys, I am desperate need of someone's assistance. I have an 2005 MT that is showing several codes: PO302 - Cylinder 2 misfire along with EPS/RKE/TPMS - U1900 codes. Engine hard starts and runs as if cyl. 2 is completely lost ( not really drivable, no power). I have been told that the U1900 codes are comm issues but how do I know what specifically to repair/replace to resolve this issue?
Mods are very basic: cat-back exhaust, cold air intake, Cobb AcessPort tuning flash (also the scanner tool used to obtain codes). Any suggestions?

I got the P0302 code the day after I had my car inspected for safety/emissions. I have absolutely no power loss and in fact it sounds and is running great. The guy at autozone told me it was the cylinder 2 misfire as well. After he said that I looked at him a little strange and said it was a rotary. He looked completely lost. Tried clearing it, but it is still there. I'm going to try disconnecting the battery since the terminals need cleaning anyway. Any ideas? I'm thinking maybe replace the spark plugs/wires.

To unk010: the "cyl 2 misfire code" is correct and refers obviously to the second rotor not cylinder. I found that coils are a common problem in these cars and changing mine solved the problem and codes. Could be the initial signs that yours are going.

I am confused by the different and contradicting information I found listed below:
1.1) NVRAM stores continuos engine data like fuel trim and code situations.
Reset by pressing and hold odometer method
1.2) NVRAM is a rather unique feature. The system memorizes the profile of the eccentric shaft plate on the e-shaft pulley. It basically knows how the e-shaft spins, on an individual basis, 2 cars NVRAM will generally never be absolutely identical, they’re pretty close to unique.
As you’d imagine with such a specialized system you wouldn’t want this information relearned and forgotten very easily, relearning the profile isn’t a short process (drive cycle, dont worry you dont do anything special to relearn it). So this info is kept in a special area of the PCM it CANNOT be cleared in any way EXCEPT the proper procedure, you could disconnect the battery and do a jig for a year and it won’t erase. Reset using brake stomps method.
2.1) KAM stores sensor profiles and the actual MIL codes
Reset using pressing and hold odometer method twice.
Brake Stomp method is use to reset whole PCM.
2.2) KAM generally doesn’t store very important stuff, other then the airbag operating on KA power they dont store anything in the KAM tho they just use the same reserve power. The main thing KAM stores are things like fuel trims etc. It’s useful to reset KAM when you have lean/rich codes where the fuel trims have been able to reach 25%. It takes a while even after repair for the fuel trims to go back to proper levels, if you clear the KAM it will reset them to 0%.
two easy ways to reset, disconnect the battery and leave it like that for at least 10 minutes, sometimes longer. To expedite the process disconnect the battery and hold down the brake pedal, itll drain the KA power quicker. This will allow all codes to clear and KAM to clear.
After some research, at this time, it seems pulling the Room Fuse on the interior fusebox will also clear only the KAM.
Which one is correct?
And finally I would like to ask that if I had my PCM remapped by Knight Sport, will the above procedures reset my PCM to factory settings and lose Knight Sport's settings?

Are you saying that clearing the NVRAM and KAM simply resets the PCM to factory defaults and clears any stored DTCs? What (if any) other effect does this have on the PCM, and will there be any ill effects as a result?
The reason I ask is that I recently had my 8 in for the airbag recall, and the M flash. I verified the flash with the brake pedal test, (which apparently also reset the KAM) immediately when I started the car when I picked it up. It has run fine since, with one exception. When warm, and at idle, the engine will periodically suddenly sputter from 950rpm (normal idle speed) to around 4-500 rpm, almost as if it is dying. It will then catch itself and idle back up to normal. Not a big problem, but this never occurred prior to the flash, and is a little spooky when sitting at a red light!
Do you think resetting the NVRAM and/or KAM and following the MODE 1 and MODE 3 instuctions outllined in step 12 in the new "Engine Cranks/No Start" TSB might cure this?

Pressing the pedal 20 times does something different, I believe the camshaft positioning sensor?
