Here in EU we use the ECE95 standard which is identical to SAE (990kpa, 25C°).
We know that Jap people use the STD standard (1033kpa, 15.5C°) whoch shows definitively higher values. Don't forget also that 1hp (eu)= 1.034PS. So....200hp ece95 means about 225ps std. About the dyno..we work developing engines since 1987 for the WRC...and now we own 24 engines...but we developed about 55 since december 2003. We have engines and marks whch develop the claimed power...other engines don't....unfortunately....since we race with our rx8s. |
I think the Bosch dyno in Spain uses SAE... maikel can confirm this.
|
Yay!! we use ECE95, so no discrepancies there.
Hf Alex, if you look around the forum, there's a thread called "Cracking the ECU". They have partially cracked both US and EURO codes and found them to be pretty much the same. Well, except for the EU version trying to reach stoich values much more than US versions at cruise. Please don't quote me on that as it's been a long time since I actually read that thread. Bottom line is, EU and US cars should put out the same numbers. It has been proven in Spain, that's why I don't get why you guys in Italy or Greece don't. |
Ciao maikelnait. As i wrote we dynoed engines and cars from Belgium, Spain, Greece, France, Swissland, Germany....and we always had that result.
When we'll come in Spain for the spanish event of the RX8 Sport Cup we have to meet. :) |
Of course!! I'm looking forward to it!! you can meet people from the spanish forum as well... we just love'em rotaries!!
Thank you for sharing your results with us :) |

As for the compression readings, I don't think they interfere with the powerband. I personally saw a 6 front and 5 rear compression rated rx8 showing 260hp(from our 190 to 205 hp for hipow). About the numbers, could be the climate? Different dynos? |
Compression rates directly affect performance, It is not just me who says it, feel free to look it up on the net and see for yourself.
I understand you're talking about a compression check, and your data is in kgf/cm2. I also assume you're testing it as in Mazda's manual (@250 Rpm). It should read between 6.9 and 8.5 Kgf/cm2. Therefore that car seems to be on the low side. I can't see how this car puts out 260 Hp. The car is either heavily modified or the dyno it was tested in needs major recalibration. I think both you and I were confusing compression check readings and the 10:1 Compression rate of the Renesis. The first one, as you can see according to the units it's measured in, checks actual pressure. The second one, refers more to volume rather than compression. 10:1 means that the volume in the part of the chamber where the air/fuel burns is one tenth of the volume of the part of the chamber where the air gets in. It is easier to explain in a piston engine. 10:1 means the volume of the chamber when the piston is on it's lower positionn is 10 times bigger than the volume of the chamber when in top position. I don't know how we can be getting such different dyno readings. I guess it could be the dynos you use, what brand and type are they? |
By the way..... on the same dyno, we have engine wich develops also more power then claimed (Ducati)...or less as Rx8 (Vw TDI).
|
I 've used mustang dynos etc. Three types until now. As for the 260 hp of course it was a N/A modified 8 but I am positive about compression in rotaries as to the fact that it does not affect performance or the engine. Several fd's and fc's here work on the lower side but run like hell after all these years despite their numbers.
Of course I must add that the greek mazda dealership is giving a freaking semi synth oil that sucks for the 8 and that the gas here is usually not good but very polluted. So it is a cummulative problem. |
Hello everyone! Lars here from Sweden. I have dynoed 238 hp at crank with this combo. 04 Renesis 14 000 km, 1 cell 100 Ferrita race kat and 2.5" front silencer, OBX racing header Motul 300 V 15v50 engine oil and Motul molybden mineral gear oil, fuel 70% Shell V-power 30% E-85 (85% Ethanol 15% gasoline, R-Flash. Power was at 9200 rpm and torque 193,8@7635 rpm. The car is pretty quick for a N/A and next week i will post some times.

You're using a 85% ethanol based fuel? Do you know the manual advise againt using more than 15% ethanol based fuels? (I guess you know, but I'm curious.)
|
I only use a 30 % mix of E85 fuel mixed with Shell V_power. According to the lambda measure, it went from 0.81 to 0.89 which is why the engine makes more hp. I see no trouble mixing these 2 fuels for the Renesis engine.

I'm not going to be able to give you dyno numbers (Because the damn dyno wasn't working properly), but I can show you the hp curve with the upgraded greddy kit that ships with the Ultimate and restrictor plate.

Whats the scale?

Thought I would share the dyno results of a recent 2005 Automatic RX-8 with everyone.

/Lasse It is one of the main reason some cars cant run it. Should read up on it some, probably need to swap some fuel delivery items. Other than that, the renesis should have no problem with even E85, just need to tune it right. |
06 dyno numbers
This should be the best place to ask this again: Has anyone dynoed an 06 that wants to share their results?

same engine as the rest of us, so why would 2006 matter?
