Door Rattle-Striker Pin

At my 3500 mile service, I asked the dealer to look into a rattle in my drivers side door that occured at low speed on rough roads. He "adjusted striker pin" which fixed the problem. Now I have the same problem on the passeger side. Does any one know how to adjust the striker pin? It would be nice to save a trip to the dealer!

Cool Pinned.....

The striker pin is the main "bolt" thing that goes in the latch.

If you loosen it and move it in/out a bit (one or two millimetres) you can make the door seat just a little bit tighter on it's rubber seals.

If you want to adjust it yourself, the most critical part is to mark where it is at present, a couple of fine spots of marker will do (don't scratch around it, thats "ghetto") You need to establish a point that you can return to, if you mess up.

I forget what kind of wrench the '8 uses, usually it's a Torx head bolt.

Be careful when adjusting strikers, on some vehicles its possible to adjust it tight enough that the lock mechanism won't release when you try to open the door. Then you get to take the door apart to get it off.

Thanks for the help. I went back and compared the rear door on the passenger side to the rear on the drivers side and the passenger side was not nearly as tight as the drivers side. Just 1/4 turn on the 2 pins and it seats tightly now. Hopefully that was the source of the rattle!
