Don't know what happened, car won't start....

Hi,

I've been working on my car for the past week changing the brakes. I thought whilst I have the car jacked up, I'd do some servicing as well. So I changed the engine oil, drained everything and put in some 5W30 royal purple. I also did the stock airbox mod by removing the two walls. Now I try to start the car, it won't start. I'm suspecting that the engine may of flooded because my bud after we fixed the brakes, he turned it on, and didn't warm it much and turned it off. I doubt its the brakes, and i don't think the engine oil change and removing the two walls did it. So I'm really pinpointing it to flooding. HELP!

Pretty likely......

Did you try and start it using the deflood procedure?? IE floor the ignition and crank it till it starts...then let your foot of the gas and then press enough to keep it going...

Expect a good smokeshow

If it still won't start...try pulling the plugs....or if it's a manual..pull start it and it should start

yeah sounds flooded but be sure that all your piping from the airbox to the throttle body is hooked up if there is too much air going in(hence not having the pipe hooked up at all or leaking quite a bit) it will not start...

if all is good try the above mentioned deflood if that does not work do it the old 2stroke way....pull the plugs crank the engine with fuel pump fuse out till all the fuel comes out the plug holes reinsert plugs and fuse and fire up

Yeah, it did turn out flooded. After 45 mins of cranking (hooked it up to another car to jump it) finally got it started. Phew the smell was bad. But the car is up and running and its all good. Thanks a lot guys.

I have the same problem. My car was starting fine when the alternator when out. They towed the car to my garage and put another battery on it to crank it before installing the new alternator and it will just keep turning over. The tech at the Mazda dealer said to try discinnecting the plug to the air pump floor the gas pedal and then turn the ignition on. That did not work so they are pulling the plugs to dry them out, re-install and re-try.

Pulled the plugs, drieed everything out. Car started, rechecked the alternator which proved out to be fine. Battery had a short, replacing the battery under warranty. The Sun is shining again today and all is well.

great to hear! I'm starting to get this feeling that if you haven't gotten your car flooded at least once, you don't 'really' own an 8 haha...

It was my fault. When the starter was dragging due to the battery, I kept cranking until that dreaded click, click sound. If I had just either jumped it or had it towed, I would not have flooded it with the slow turnover of the engine. When I had the re-built motor installled, they also put a higher output starter on the car to help aleviate flooding.
