you need needle nose pliers and a set of vice grips. Get in there and snap off the metal guard.
Try to move it around and get the portion you broke from the base to come through the hole.
Grab this end with the vice grips and lock it down.
Using the needle nose pliers crush the metal guard so that you can pull it out.
Its a bit of a PITA, but once you do one its a piece of cake.
