DIY create cabin air filter?

Just wondering if anyone created a replacement cabin air filter from using the furnace filter? I did it for my old car and it worked great. Manage to create multiple filters from just one furnace filter.
Anyone have the dimensions of the cabin filter?

i actually did just buy a furnace filter and gonna try to do this. now when you made your DIY filters for your previous car, did you cut out the filtering element and reused the plastic frame, or did you make new paper filter frames that is the same dimension as the old filter frame?

The filter is actually 2 pieces. The element area is 8 3/8 X 3 1/2.

I cut out the element and reuse part of the existing frame for structural integrity. Then I used duct tape to complete the other sides. Pretty ghetto. But it works and no visible by anyone.

Is that measurement per piece?

Yes, I would use hot glue to hold the filter in the frame.

too much work. Point of this DIY is to find and easy solution. That DIY will take me too long and if I were to include my time, then it is not worth it. Nice though.

It may take a while the first time but it looks like a piece of cake every subsequent time. Since you're simply replacing the filter instead of modding the frame again.

Or you could buy the Aldehyde Cabin Filter which is superior and only have to replace it every 40,000 miles or when it starts to stink.

spend $45 every 40000 miles or spend $5.99 for probably the rest of the service life of my 8, gee i wonder what i'm gonna choose

and yes after the first time modding it, rest would just be pull out old filter element and replace with already-cut new ones

definitely a time worthy diy

Im not trying to say not to do this and this is a good DIY. A filter that can block allergens and most outside smells or a DIY that will only do the basics :/ I dont have allergies, but my gf does and 40,000 miles will take me about 3-4 years to tack on. Besides, the filter will most likely still be fine unless you live in the arm pit of america or some where with a lot of allergens. I think Im ok with spending $40 every 3-4 years.

Again this is MY opinion. Some will feel the same and others will not. If $40 was too much to spend on a filter, I wouldnt own an RX8
