Being new to the RX-8, I checked the oil for the first time this weekend and when I pulled the dipstick out, a white-ish plastic sleeve came partway out of the dipstick tube with it. When I put the dipstick back, it (the sleeve) went back in the tube. Never seen anything like this before in 23 years of car ownership.

(Time passes while searching further before posting . . . .)

Did a search and apparently this is a "fix" for condensation foam, etc. on the dipstick. Should the sleeve be loose in the tube or attached somehow?

I've had that added to my car... it should be stuck in place... maybe have the dealer take a look if its still under warranty
