Developed Backfires
I got my oil changed at 10,000 miles. Prior to that oil change i was using Castrol GTX, but at 10,000 miles i put Mobil 1 in it. Now when i step on the gas hard(not noticed it moving only because its quiet) it backfires alot. Its not loud. It actully sounds like a puffing sound. Any thaughts on the issue?

i did not say it has anything to do with the type of oil. he has backfiring which means rich . its not the normal richness of the car since he didnt have it before. one reason for richness could be fouled plugs. since its relatively easy to pull and clean plugs he might as well start there.

there is a huge debate about synthetic oils and the general consensus is to stay away from it in rotary engines. But, I'd do some searching and make up your own mind. Some racing teams use synth all the time and said its fine, but racing a car and using at as a daily driver are very different. Me, old school oil until Mazda says otherwise since my car is under warranty. Keep in mind synthectic oil was designed to last longer in piston engines, which arent suppose to consume oil...but our engines consume oil by design and i think that alone is what makes synthetic not a good choice for rotaries...
