Coolant Overflow Hose

I noticed that the hose coming out of my coolant overflow cap was simply hanging on the right side, cut clean and not attached to anything. There was a bit of dried coolant in the surrounding area. I don't really have time to look into it right now, is it something that I can simply plug up or ignore until I flush the coolant in two weeks?

Here is a picture I found of the hose on here, I marked roughly how far down mine goes.

That is how Mazda ships it.
Now you understand why coolant boil-overs end up ruining the power steering harness.

buy 2 foot of hose from autozone, replace the short one with it, and zip tie it down the middle of the radiator fans till the hose end is down under the car.

Oh phew, thanks Jeff! That's the first time that I've had it overflow so I figured it wasn't supposed to make a mess lol.

Sounds like a good idea Jason, when I flush the coolant in a few weeks I'll likely do so.

Does it hang like that on all RX-8s? That first picture I found looked like it was clamped onto something so that's why I was concerned, but I assume that was done by the owner?

yes, it's only a few inches long and hangs directly over the power steering wires.
