compression test - failed, need advice

why would they take the water pump off the old engine? The old core is being sent back. I e-mailed mazda to determine if remanufactured engines don't come with all new components (for the ones that are included)

Reman engine comes with brand new water pump

Reason why u see rust is that, they are so lovely that they use straight tap water to check for leaks, it doesnt effect the pump impeller all that much, but i would do a flush with distilled water couple of times before i actually put coolant mix into it

looks like it is just surface rust and came off with slight effort but why would they use a corrosive material in a water pump? oh well.

Its not cheap. The engine has iron housings and what you see is the carbon material from those attaching to other non-iron surfaces and rusting on there.
