cold start = engine light on?

whenever my car starts up in the cold, the engine light would be on from 10-60 seconds. this has never happened to me before until recently...

i went to the dealer ,they said it was a misfire, then they updated the codes of the car and said i'd have to change the coils if the lights are on again.

the next day, the engine light came on again, so i went to the dealer again, they put it through the computer, and they told me that everything is fine?
I told them that the engine light still turns on whenever i start my car, and they told me that the car is doing tests???

the car runs fine, but seeing the engine light turn on everytime i start my car up worries me... does anyone have a solution to this?

Same thing happens to me. Haven't taken it to the dealer as yet. This is my first winter with the car. Hope someone can clarify what it means...

Guys, I'm facing a $675 repair bill to fix the Solenoid / SSV - P2070. Please bring up my past posts to see the issue.

I'm absolutely disgusted with Mazda Canada's lack of warranty coverage. I wrote a letter to Mazda Canada this afternoon.

If they pulled misfire codes then start with spark plugs, plug wires, and coils.
These are usually the first three things to swap (unless another symptom arises along with the misfire).

it's my second winter with the car and here's the avg temp. is around -20 (between -40 and 0).
Its always parked outside, not hooked to anything.

Didnt have any problem last winter.

This winter, for the 1st time I had the CEL blinking : misfire. When you drive with it, you ll hear weird engine noise (ecc shaft trying to compensate and therefor changing position? thats what ive been told by mazda dealer). After 10m, the CEL will stop blinking and just stays there but the car runs better. The code is still there, that's why you'd see the CEL on.

it went away after a few engine cycle... I ended up replacing 2 spark plugs (dealer said they needed to be replaced with 2 coils) and didnt have any misfire yet.

In very cold temp, when you first run the car, it will warm up the engine by doing 1,5K to 4K revs for 1m or so till it stabilize at 2K. This is normal. And good.

I find that the CEL seems to be very random... but most of time simply related to bad sparks/coils. I think it's just a matter of time before you'll be forced to change your plugs
