Check engine light
What usually cause you check engine light to come? My check engine light just light up and tomorrow is Saturday I think most dealership just do oil changes on the weekend. The car drives fine. Should I not drive my car and wait until Monday to take the 8 to the dealership. I live in Orange County, CA, and take my car to Irvine Mazda. Does any one know if their service department is open for full service on Saturday? Or can recommend to me what dealer ship in Orange County to take my RX-8 to on Saturday.

3 mazda dealerships that i know in my area only do oil changes also and i'm pretty sure they only work half of a regular day on weekends.
i wouldn't drive the car on a long trip or put it under heavy load while the light is on. a drive to the grocery store should be okay since you said that the car is running fine. this light could be caused by hundred of things. try tightening the gas cap as it is the easiest thing you could do to TRY to get the check engine light to go away.
some autoparts store might be able to pull a code and see why the light is on for a fee, even on weekends.

^+1..................when did you last put gas in? Go check the gas cap and turn it until it at least clicks a couple of times. No need to have it click like 6 to 8 times as someone on here had said. That still may not solve it, but it's worth a try.

If it is on solid (not blinking) it is not a detonation or misfire. It probably has to do with the emissions system, which includes the gas cap. if the car runs fine, I wouldn't worry about it.
If you can find an auto parts store with a scanner that reads CANBUS (OBDII scanners will hook up, but will not read the code), you can get the code. There is a compliation of all codes on the forum somewhere. Knowing what it is may at least be reassuring until you can get to the dealer.

I call around five different Mazda dealerships Saturday in the Orange County, CA area. All but one told me that they cannot look at my RX-8 because I needed to already have an appointment for my car to be look at on Saturday. Browning Mazda in Cerritos told me to just come on by no appointment is needed for them to take a look at my 8. I took it there look at my car fix the check engine light and wash my car and I was on my way in around an hour or two. Browning Mazda is a grate dealership to take your car to IMO.

If that's the problem, retightening the cap won't cause the light to go off immediately. It takes some cycles before it will clear itself. A number of other CEL conditions are intermittent, and the light will also go off by itself after a few cycles.
A major clue that a CEL is because of a loose gas cap is that the light goes on as soon as you start the engine. The test that fails takes place while the car is off.

They say it was the gas cap. I open up and close the gas cap turn it and heard the chic around 4 times and the check engine light was still on. I took it to dealership they check out my 8 and reset something I don’t know what. When I got my car back it was wash and the light was no longer on. The service manger ask me when I fill up my car did I have the ignition on to listen to the radio, because if the ignition is on the car computer is on and it will check for any leak in the system and will code it to the car computer and cause the check engine light to come on.

I guess the point the dealership was making is that if you have the car on, even in ACC to listen to the radio and then remove the gas cap that it might recognize that as a leak and set a cel. That's pretty interesting as I have never had the car running or in ACC when fililling up. I wonder if this is really true(about the gas cap) and how many people have seen this cel or had the gas cap replaced when all it may have been that way they filled up? Hmmmmmm?????
