Changed rear diff and trany oil...I know there are write ups, just posting my pics from it.
Car just hit 17,000 miles and my tranny drain plug was NASTY.I replaced the fluids with Redline fluids it was very easy to do, kind of nervous having the car a foot or so off the ground on jacks but it was all good. Took about 20 minutes or so.

I'll post pics tonight and impressions from my drive home...

 

Just drove around - you can practically throw it into gear now. Pretty smooth

 

Sweet, good for you, man. I was going to do mine today. Drove all over town tracking down 23&24mm sockets and 5/8" tubing. When I got to the base to pick up the Royal Purple, they were out. What a drag. I had to go to the library downtown, so I didn't have time to go on another goosechase. I found some at NAPA this evening, so I'll be able to do that tomorrow. My MT-90 will come in the mail next week, as well as my crushwashers and speedbleeder. So in 2 weeks it'll be refilling the tranny, installing the stainless steel clutch hose, and draining and filling the clutch with DOT4. Fun stuff. I'll be sure and take photos of the clutch hose install - we haven't seen one of those yet.

 

I want to see those photos - that is my next fluid swap along with Agency Power Stainless brake lines...
My friend has ALOT of tools and we had to hunt down 23&24MM too. No big deal.

It is a VERY easy swap. Pics will be up tonight....

I just drove to work this morning and the car feels a little different. Everything feels smoother, not just shifting, but acceleration as well. It actually feels like there is more power.

Thanks for the write up... I used to run Redline in my Miata's tranny and diff and it made a world of difference. I'm definitely planning on switching my RX8 to Redline before winter gets here. Question about capacities- you used 2qts of MT and 2qts of 75W90?

And btw, I think you got that piston in upside down...

1.4 Diff. 1.8 tranny. Level the car and fill till it overflows. Very simple.

Okay, I just got back from refilling my differential - a couple of tips:

Oil drain-slope. I managed to drain the oil everywhere but into the drip pan. I did this on a lift and had absorbent padding on the floor. I maneuvered the wheeled oil receptacle underneath the drain plug area, but once the plug came out the oil shot out about 6 inches, completely missing the pan and gushing down the side of the receptacle. I moved it back, then ran over to the table to get more rags. When I turned around to come back, the drainslope had changed, and was now draining straight down from the differential, and onto the other side of the receptacle. I had to laugh. I don't believe a single drop made it into the pan. lol.

1/2" clear tubing. I got 5/8" from Lowe's, and it was just slightly bigger than the fill hole. I couldn't get it in without crimping it, which would have caused a huge restriction. I cut a slit and pinched-rolled it. It worked fine, but was a little extra messy. A small bit of oil leaked through the slit until I got it situated just right. 1/2" should be perfect.

Wrench clearance. The torque wrench and socket (24mm) fit just fine onto the drain plug. However I could not squeeze it in to torque the fill plug (23mm). A short extension did the trick, passing it through the opening in the subframe. Note - a long extension will not fit due to the muffler.

Other than that it was really easy, and the 39.2 lb-ft. of torque on the plugs made for some very easy wrench turning.

They usually sell redline for about 7 bucks a qt +shipping. (Which is usually a set cost per X amount). It comes out to be cheaper then most performance shops after taxes. I just changed out my Mazda 6's MTX fluid to MT-90 as well, so thought I'd drop a line and mention that.
