That's good to know. Hopefully the clogged cat didn't do any damage to the engine (its a fairly common issue). Just keep an eye on the way the car runs and let us know if you have any issues with it. Peace Out.

Snow! WTF? How about 70 degree weather so we can do a hill country run instead

Don't be too sad, at least you have warranty. There was a chick there when I dropped off my car that didn't have warranty and needed a new engine. She was crying. I picked up my car last Wednesday and she is running great!!!!!

Once they get the approval from Mazda they will send you across the street to Enterprise to pick up your rental.

This may be kinda off, but have you pissed anyone off lately? My wife told me of some of her friends putting a marble in someone's fuel tank, that will eventually roll around and block the fuel line...stall....wait..the suction is no longer there and the marble moves and the the car can start again. Appears to be completely random with no actual bad parts.

I am having these same issues cept my car hasnt died cause I saved it from dying. This started last night on my way back from work I am going to Nelson Mazda first thing in the morning to tell them what is happening and see what they say. And I know about this Texas heat you all have been having same thing here in Oklahoma and it has been screwing with my car BAD.

I dont think a fuel pump makes clanking noises from the engine bay and under the car where the engine is. It sounded worse than it did when I spun a bearing on my old integra.

Did you check to see if the cat is glowing when you have acceleration issues? How many miles and what year?

Well, if it is the cat, your out of warranty on that so, that's $1200 from Mazda...but it does give you reason to go with a nice aftermarket cat and decent exhaust. But you should take it in and have them look at it...it could end up being the motor.

hmmm yeah last time I took it to them though they wanted 100 dollars to check the CEL before they went into it more cause it has been lacking power for a while now and I told them that, and that it occasionally stalled but they wouldnt touch it till I forked over 100 dollars so they could check the CEL though.

My apologies if these have already been discussed.
im definitely going with MAF ...coz if its specific time in the afternoon where the air is hot , then somethings wrong with ur air flow coz of the density ....probably ...i might be wrong...

well took it to the dealer and made an appointment for Friday since they are booked up till then. Talked to one of the advisors about it he was saying "cat, cat, cat" until I went to start it up to leave right as it started it died and had to start it up again and it was idling rough thats when he told me or a new engine. So they are going to test my cat and do a compression test to see what happens Friday. Ill update you Friday when I find something out.

Hate to repeat myself , or sound like a broken record, but if you live in Texas ( or anywhere HOT) you should be opening up your rear OIL Cooler Vent Holes.

Cooler Oil means a Cooler engine...and a HAPPIER engine.
