People who had a stiffer setup was easier to drift and control as well.

Someone mentioned... especially those addicted to tracking - "If you drift - YOU are slow!"

Most of us down here did skidpan sessions to familiarize with the way the car behaves in a sideways slide (drift???). AND let me tell you - on the racetrack, those sessions do pay off!.

I find it more amusing to beat the clock than burn rubber.
yeah man. i totally agree with what you say, having to know how it feel when your car slide indeed helps you on a track. Damn i should have join you guys for some session when i was in melbourne uni few years back. i think i get what your instructor mean now. this car is not meant to drift, it has a great balance and grip. correct?

well if Im bsing then I guess I was probably smoking or something when I did mine at about 70, oh no no no I didnt do it with cars on the road.

You need the skills and most important, ******* to do it.

Im not saying I have TONS of "*****", I mean hey, Im not afraid of dying, but I DO LOVE LIVING.

Yes Donuting is probably the first thing you need to learn. to keep it at certain throttle control and try not to spin. but If you cant even do that, something is wrong. btw, STOCK 8 can do drifting, just a bit harder.

Just a note, on a *stock* 8, you want to drift? change your tires FIRST.

and its just funny that you're wondering why ATs cant drift. Some AT actually could ... but its hard as hell to do it on 8 AT

initially that was the Question and thanks for answering to the point. Thats what we are trying to figure out why is it un-driftable? 2 AT 8 but only 1 can be donut at 1st gear and the other one couldn't. trust me. its not hard at all. it was easy as hell, took my friend 2 second to start donuting. but not for my car. so "WHY ? " even the owner of the other 8 drove my car and was feeling the different and he could not even do donut with my car. so "WHY?"

i also suspect tires. but what kind of tire we should be using? hard / soft? wider tread or smaller ones?

I have a complete stock setup.

I have never attempted to drift on purpose.

Once after having the car for a month, I was going through an intersection with the DSC off. I was making a left and was pretty much committed to turning, when some jackass pulled out from a gas station across the intersection and came plowing through at me.

So I floored it, and the back end kicked out into a nice drift. And I am not to knowledgable on the whole over-steer under-steer thing, but she went where I pointed her.

Funny thing was, it was at the intersection where the dealer I bought my car was. 30 seconds later, the salesman I bought the car from called me, "hey man, is that you who just spun out at the intersection".

"No, I made it through just fine". Boy was my heart pounding though, not expecting it at all.

So stock tires seem OK.

actally, all comes down to what you can afford.

cuz donuting maybe 30 minutes should be able to ruin a brand new tire.

If money isnt an issue, of course get the most expensive stuff you can find. Toyo is pretty good for drifting around. but I think Bridgestone tires have more traction Than Toyos.

but if money IS an issue, buy something decent (BUT NOT CHEAP!), and donut it only when it rains.

I think i have wrong concept about racing tyres. when i was still using pontenza, i lost control of my car twice during the rain. so when i buy my second set of tyres, i go for Federal cheap tyres that can grip well in the rain. since i finished my pontenza in a month, i travels around when i am working, 100-200+ km per day. Got my 18" already. Tyres are paid by company... i wonder what i am gonna get next.

Err ....

They design racing tyres mostly for dry road conditions. not for wet.

the Stock potenza re040 suck ***, RE050 or R01 is Much much better.

Can I work in your company ? Tyres are expensive.
