Today I rebuilt my caliper because my brake pads were constantly against my rotor. Well after cleaning my after pretty clean caliper, I think that I am maybe missing a bracket or something.

This was my first time working on the brakes, so I can only guess.

Heres what I have, one bracket behind each pad and I have the two brackets (top & bottom) that attach to the caliper bridge. But I don't see anything that would make the brake pads return after the piston presses it against the rotor.

Any help and/or ideas are welcome.

 

I'm not sure how the 8's brakes are (haven't gotten mine yet), but the in a disc brake setup the brakes pads are always on the rotor, at least within an few thousandths of an inch.

And I don't get what you mean by the pad is on the rotor; does it slow you down when you're driving without applying the brakes?

 

What info/instructions did you follow when you rebuilt the calipers? That would have shown all the parts.

Disc brakes don't have any kind of return mechanism. When your foot is off the pedal, the pressure is off and the pads tend to bounce clear on their own. Very different from drum brakes, which are booby-trapped with all kinds of springs.

Are you talking about the anti-rattle clips? They are the metal clips you can see when you look at the caliper when it is attached to the rotor. If that is what you are missing, I wouldn't worry about them since they just lessen vibration and noise, not performance.

 

I wasn't sure if there was another piece that I was missing.

Before I cleaned my caliper my rear passenger brake would grind on the rotor. Hopefully once I bleed my brake line it will be okay.

My caliper was very clean, so I though maybe I was missing a part and that was the problem..

 

After bleeding my brake line, everything was fine.
