TX bwd coils

hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I recently bought myself a 2004 rx8 6speed. the first thing I wanna do is replace coils, wires, and spark plugs. is bwd a okay coil brand to buy? I've seen auctions on eBay that include bwd coils with ngk spark plugs and wires for around $250. should I go ahead and purchase them? thanks in advanceadvance

i bought them, here was my reasoning. usually i like to get 100% OEM. in this case the OE coils aren't that great, so the BWD doesn't have to be that good, and the BWD's were half the money.

the BWD coils are not a reboxed OEM, they are actually an aftermarket part

you do want the NGK plugs though

You can get BWD brand coils at your local auto parts store. The NGK plugs too. The BWD coils are built to oem specs and are a direct replacement for those sold by Mazda.

Bwd or oem, they work almost the same, just a different brand.

Yeah, they're just like the OEM. I bought mine at O'reilly's on April of 2011 for $29.95 with about 28,000 miles now. I may need a new set soon.

You could always try the BHR ignition system. You'll get a baseplate, coil brackets, ignition coils, a conversion harness, and custom MSD spark plug wires. Not to mention its all pre assembled so it's super easy to install. Just gotta take your time with it.

It starts at $500, but in the long run it will save you money and improve your 8s performance at the same time. In my opinion (FWIW) it's the best bang for your buck, and Charles is always a great guy to do business with.

I'm not quite sure if the saving money part applies.

since aftermarket coils carries a lifetime warranty and it cost less than 100 bucks. and you probably need not to replace them every 30K, some last longer some less. If you are a DIYer and you have stock level power, I say go for OE coils and save yourself some money for plugs in the future (hell, even plugs have at least 2 yr warranty, go figure)

It's not as much saving money as it is retaining resale value later on down the road. Still going to have to replace stuff like usual, i.e. the OEM plugs that are optionally included. It's just another option to consider, just my $0.02
