Buzzing Sound over 7K RPM's
Hello all,
I now have 5200 miles on my 2005 RX-8 and my car has developed a buzzing or crackling sound. The sound starts at around 7K RPM's and seems to be coming from the area around the passenger dash area or maybe a bit lower around the passengers feet. It's hard to tell if it's coming from the engine bay or in the passenger cabin but I've removed every personal item in the car and it still does it so it's something on the car itself.
Anyone else experiencing this problem? Oh and also, the drivers side door seems to have a bit more wind noise than the passenger side...mostly over 70mph which in this car is basically all the time!

I noticed the same thing on the M/T I test drove, it had about 6k miles on it. I've also heard this complaint alot, I'd get it checked out though, it's definetly under warranty. Maybe it's the engine BREAKING in. :o) Let's hope it isn't. Check the glove compartment too, my wheel locks were making some funny noises in there.

I had this same problem (sounds like rocks in a tin can) under the glove compartment. I took my car in at about 1500 miles to get a few minor things looked at (brake pads replaced, headlights aligned, rattle noise checked), and they say it's the cat breaking in. Apparently that's where it sits. At about 3500 miles, I don't hear it anymore in normal driving. If you rev it with the clutch in you can still hear it, but that's just bad for the cats to rev in neutral anyway. Unless it's really persistant, I'd let it go for a while and see if it gets better.

The cat? Under the glove compartment?
.........
What's wrong with revving in neutral?
As usual, it seems there's a million answers to this problem instead of one.
