Broke side view mirror

Hi folks,

I couldn't find any detailed info on the problem I caused this morning.

I went and purchased blind spot mirrors that you can stick on the side view mirrors. Passenger side worked great for me but the driver side mirror was blocking my immediate view. So I went and pulled the blind spot mirror with some force and CRACK!!!!! My whole side view mirror is cracked now. On top of that, the whole panel seems to be very loose. The motor seems to be working okay.

Will I be able to change just the mirror or change any inner parts?

Thank you in advance,
Nedor

The mirror glass-holder unit is listed separately in the parts manual. See your dealer. Here are the installation instructions from the shop manual.

I've had a local glass and mirror company cut and install a side view mirror on one of my prior cars. All it cost me was $25. Could be another way to go as opposed to buying factory parts.

Thank you very much Go48. By following the instruction, I was able to remove the glass easily. Removing the two wires from the glass was easy too. I imagine the wires are for heating the mirrors.

I was able to order the heated mirror for 32 dollars from local dealer. The problem now I have is the Mirror Glass Holder. It simply won't stay on tight. After looking at the diagram, I was supposed to move PIN A, but there was no PIN A when I pulled the glass out. I think I may have forced it too hard and it fell somewhere.

Dealer tells me that PIN A can not be ordered. Is there other way to work around this?

I've attached a picture of the side view mirror with out the glass.

Thank you again,
Nedor

That's too bad. I have no idea how to resolve that without replacing the rest of the mirror housing. Perhaps you can get one used from MazMart or some other salvage firm. Good luck.

Make a pin out of a nail.

This thread made me think of Open Road Song by Eve 6... Specifically the "I love my broken side view mirror" part.

Since you are now an RX-8 side mirror expert, disassemble your right side mirror and use its "Pin A" to fabricate a replacement for the one you lost.

Problem solved. I pushed the top of glass holder and it snaped in. There were no PIN A that was missing because it was never there. I think PIN A refered to a snap pin.

Saved me additional $230.00..

WOOT!!
