GA Black sludge build up...

I have a 2005 rx-8 and I bought it this past June. I started noticing black spots in my driveway a few days after I got the car. So I took it to the dealer and had them go over it for me. They said that it was my powersteering fluid leaking and they weren't gonna fix it (which I think is bullshit) so I took it to another mechanic and he said that it was my oil pan gasket. So I took it back to the dealer and told them what the other place said and they said that rx-8's don't have oil pan gaskets... Well that's bullshit. But anyways, Idk what the sludge build up is. It starts behind my front left wheel and goes all the way back to my back left wheel. There is some on the frame too. If you take a rag and wipe it under the car, the entire rag is black. Can anybody help me out or tell me what I need to do? I've been putting about 4 quarts of oil in my car every 600 miles, but I heard that is normal for rx-8s?

Any advise will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

No power steering fluid ...so they are idiots....

The oil pan could be leaking.....and there isn't a gasket...but the RTV sealant can be replaced easily to stop a leak

It could be leaking from the oil cooler line in the front left corner...most likely problem...get that checked out.

It could also be coming from the intake...oil is sometimes puked into the intake and tends to leak down on top of the rad and out the left side of the engine

It is not where near normal to use 4 qts of oil in 600 miles.....you should only use about 1 qt for every 3K miles or so for normal driving

which i think is bullshit
i know it was cover by Dan but yeah it is BS since your car doesnt use power steering fluid. it has electric power steering.

do you park on a level flat space, like a garage? lay some newspaper or cardboard under the car and see where the leak drips to/from. definitely get the cooler but also look for the leak from the pan mentioned by the one mechanic. if you see drips from the area of the pan get it dropped and resealed

LOL! Ask them "please show me how to add fluid since I must be low by now"!

I park on a flat surface. I just went outside and jacked up my car and took a look under it. There is fresh oil dripping out of my front left wheel well in one of the vents. So that should be the oil cooler correct?

This is that part correct?

These are the lines that were replaced on Canadian 8s due to corrosion, right?

Are these covered in the US?

Has anyone ever found gooey black sludge in a rotary? Yeah, we've all seen the extemely black oil come out, but diesel engines do the same without sludge. The black might be the overly rich tune that leaves hydrocarbons in the oil, but not neccessarily an engine killer.

err ... no.

it could be the oil cooler lines going bad due to corrosion.

yes and no

yes if u're under b2b warranty.

no is there is no recall/extended warranty for US.

Mazda did update the part tho, the new part is far more "resistant" to road salt.

but my opinion is that I rather just get the racing beat oil cooler lines. make it simple. (its a bitch to install if your engine is in the car)
