It's the "heat sink" looking thingy under the air pump bracket :)

You can't miss it

Nemesis8 03-15-2008 12:40 PM

You could probably locate anything in the engine with your eyes closed I bet.. hahaha

dannobre 03-15-2008 01:06 PM

If it's still there :D:

I pulled my air pump and the fuel pump resistor pack stayed to the chassis

Crunch time :o

rotorocks 03-15-2008 10:08 PM

OK, we have pulled the motor out, cleaned it with a pressure washer, put it on an engine stand, and pulled it apart.
my worst fear is true. it is an apex seal on the rear rotor that gave. A tiny piece of it broke off, and just murdered the housing. as soon as we find out, we dropped the tools and went to the pool. there is nothing we can do at this point but wait till Monday, so I can buy a new housing.

Tomorrow CRH and I will clean the rotors, the rear rotor has some damage on it too, bit we'll fix that (it is not irreparable), fit the seals, assemble everything to the point of the last housing, and then just chill until the housing is here.

Here are the pics:

Vlad, congrats on the rebuild, sorry to hear you had apex and rotor damage man. I really wouldnt have expected that from how it sounded.

Im gunna have to make a trip up there once the engine is all rebuilt and the turbo is fitted again. Ive got a new job, so I may be ordering my parts sooner than expected.

Hope all else goes well with the build guys. Hope to see you soon Vlad.

HiTMaNN 03-16-2008 03:52 AM

Shitty deal... so party until the new housings come?

tdiddy 03-16-2008 08:17 AM

Can you guys take some good pics of the damaged parts? I see some scoring on the iron and rotor but what about the housing?

olddragger 03-16-2008 10:31 AM

WHo can afford cardboard?--save it until Christmas.

I will never forget that flywheel install and then the guy had the wrong flywheel! Thank God Charlie had the right one in stock!
Following with interest

Using a cherry picker, how lame  What happened to pulling it by hand Ogre style??

Sorry about the housing, that really blows.

Kane 03-16-2008 03:17 PM

Why do I feel a game of engine toss coming up...

"I can throw one 10 feet..."
"Not uh!"
"Uh Huh!"
"Not uh!"
"Uh Huh!"
"Not uh!"

"Uh Huh!"

"Poo Poo Head!"

that's easy. smash the other side of the fender a bit.

it might not look good, but you can claim it's for aerodynamics, like a golf ball is dimpled.
