As far as quality, I know for sure PureONE is up there and on oil, there are many threads concerning what everybody uses.

I recommend Penzoil 5w-20, but of course that what I recommend, and everybody is going to be different.. There's nothing official..

I stayed Away from synthetic..

According to the *official* statement, it was a result of *fuxked up OMP* adjustment. These *so called consumeraffair* sites should at least verified their source b4 posting it.

Its from the internet so it must be TRUE !!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Im using K&N or WiX Filters + Royal Purple 5w30 FULL Synthetic Oil. Engine has yet to have any problems.

yes. I have 3 local walmarts. One of them (a super walmart) carries 10w30 rp.

Also i have a local auto zone that carries rp. Apparently the manager orders them because he uses it in his own car. Usually they do not carry it from what I've seen.

Sweetness.... I'll check around here in my area and see.. I'm interested in trying it... Is it about average in price, or is it top of the line?

I'd love to use the OEM filter but they are expensive and the hours of operation for the parts section is not the most convenient. I use a second rate filter - Fram.

I also use Castrol 5W30. I used to use Mobil1 but then I decided that regular oil changes will dino oil will get me far enough with this car.

I just keep it regular and I always do it myself.

synthetic seems to cost around $6 - $6.80 range, and rp was within that.

Note that Fram offers at least three levels of oil filter for the RX-8 ...

I just installed a Fram Extra-Guard because that's what was on the shelf and use 5W20 Castrol GTX exclusively

IMO oil & filter types/brands are overemphasized, particularly for rotary engines and specifically on this forum. I personally think synthetic oil is a waste in an NA rotary, turbo/FI I can maybe understand the extra need ...

It doesn't matter as long as you use oil and oil filters that meet the requirements laid out in the owners manual. More importantly than the question being asked here... You MUST keep all records of maintenance done to the car. If you can not provide those documents, then MNAO will not pay for the cost of replacing an engine. Trust me. I'm in this situation right now. They could care less that even more important documents than the oil changes done to the wifes car got thrown away or lost when we moved.

So I guess when you have to add 1/2 a quart you need to verify that too? Technically I'm changing the oil so adding oil voids the warranty. If they void my warranty I'll see Mazda in Hell! In Hell I tell ya!

I'm truly amazed. 18 replies to the OP and his first post and no one yelled out the "S" word. You must have caught nycgps on a good day .

FWIW. I use either Castrol GTX or Valvoline 5W-20 and Wix/Napa Gold oil filters. I'm probably gonna change to 5W-30 on the next oil change.

I use Fram filters because they aren't too pricey and the local AutoZone always has one in stock for the RX8. I would use the K&N if I didn't have to order it....

For oil I first used Castrol GTX 5W-30. I then went to Royal Purple synthetic 5w-30. Next week I'm changing the oil to Mobil1 Extended Performance 5000 mile synthetic 5w-30. Most oils are the same. Yes they do vary a little from manufacture to manufacture- but the ones for sale at any reputable auto store have to pass countless SAE, EPA, and other organizations batteries of tests, so they're good.
