That'd be it! Can you scan it? Edit out your personal info, though, if it shows. Just need the repair order and what-not. Thanks Jed.

In essence, Mazda would have to divulge all of their records pertaining to transmission repairs and problems that they know about and you can use this info to support your assertion that these tranny troubles are quite common. Just as I help people with their cars I was once a legal advocate that showed others how to represent themselves and I never lost when they followed my advice. I also saved SSR Engineering $49,701 with my advice.
Thanks Charles - I'm still optimistic (but realistic) for the warranty to work. Having seen other folks having transm. "fixed" and the problem return has me half-shopping other cars. It's sickening a car I enjoy so much when it's running right, has such a horrible track-record for repairs. My 93 Miata? Bullet-proof. My 2004 rx8? barely BB-proof.

I would vote for a beefier trans with a taller 6th gear and shorter 4th and 5th...but thats just me...

I am expecting mine to be done early next week. But mine is a transmission rebuild. I would fight for a replacement as this has been more of a headache. I can get mine to you if you need it once it's done, but I don't know if you want to tell them to rebuild it.

Have you seen the thread regarding the clutch bracket welds and how to inspect them?

My 8's been grinding 1>2 and 2>3 above 6k rpms for a few weeks now. If I get higher than 7.5k RPMS or so, I basically "double-clutch" to keep it from grinding and doing more damage until my tranny parts come in.

I'm curious to know how if the trannies Mazda is using to replace these are the same RX-8 trannies or are they a newer BETTER version (or maybe even the FD ransmission)? What's gonna stop this from happening again as soon as my warranty expires?

update: Mazda said the tranny it torn apart and quote, "You were not imagining anything, there is something wrong with the 2nd gear." So they have it disassembled and are putting updated parts in it they said. Also having some other minor issues taken care of too. nice to be under warranty.

Okay so i got the car back the other day and everything between first through 5th was fine, but now it seems it does not want to go in 6th on the first try. I have to put it half way in pull it out in N and put it back in or it will not engage 6th. Also seems to pop out of R

Just got mine back tonight for the bad 1-2 and 3-2 grind. Replaced 2nd gear, 2nd synchro, clutch hub sleeve, shift fork, and some other stuff. Shifts great.

Now my problem is that some a-hole either backed my car into something or ran something into my rear bumper. Didn't notice it til I got home. It's scratched, scuffed, bent and cracked. All very little blemishes but I've photographed them all. I know I'm in for the "didn't happen here" fight. What do I do?

Yeah Charles, I'm still having problems

Still 1->2 and 2->3 at high RPMs and I'm getting this reverse thing where to get the car into reverse, I have to push the shifter down like normal, take it into reverse, and then hold it there while I give it gas and let off the clutch. I can feel the gears roll into place, and then I can reverse the car. My TOB is loud as **** too when the car's parked and in neutral. Nothin' but chatter!

Oh, and out at TurnStyle down in Tucson Saturday, I couldn't get a decent drift or any sideways action to save my life. It was so bad one guy asked me if I still had my traction control on. I think I only did like 6 runs, and then I packed up and headed home.

I'm actually going to Berge after work today to drop my baby off for the tranny, the CD player (won't eject CDs when it gets hot... I'm hoping for an MP3 Player), a new armrest clip, and my e-brake (light comes on when I accelerate, and then goes off again, but my brake pads are at about 25% still).I can't wait to get this **** fixed!

I may switch tranny fluids again and see if it still occurs. I'm debating between the BG SynchroShift II that musclecarconvert suggested or the redline SHOCKPROOF fluid that teamrx8 used (and said the shockproof didn't emit a sulfur smell like the rp fluids do.)
Add me to that list. I switched to RP Maxgear 75W90 last weekend. The first time I shifted from 3rd to 4th at higher RPMs, it dragged a little going in. It then progressed to a nice solid grind each and every time (3-4 only). All shifts were okay previously with Redline, which is a shame since I like the RP more otherwise. Looks like I'll be buying some Shockproof too...

Oh yeah, update on mine:

Dropped it off at Berge, and they said it's not the synchros. I guess Karl had rebuild the tranny on my car back in November of 06 (I bought it in Jan 07). Karl said it's my clutch going out that's causing me to have difficulties getting the car into gears and causing the grinding. There's a problem with the clutch engagement. $1260.00 quote for new stock clutch and resurfaced flywheel.

Time for upgrades!!!
