Mine has always wanted to grind 2nd coming out of first near redline. It's done it since I bought the car. The Axial flow short shifter helped a LOT. you can feel the syncros better and it helps you feel when they actually engage the gear.

what a freaking idiot. It even says in the manual not to downshift into 1st when oven 20MPH or damage may incur. I'd refuse to even let him LOOK at my car after that stunt.

Haha no argument @ all. Walked into his office & he was like we'll be taking care of the warranty work "This one time" I just left it alone anyway after that he went on about the rest of my mods & how they can affect my warranty if a problem arose and that was the cause. .

Once they put in the order for parts it should be delivered over night and @ the max a 2day turnaround till I have my car back. No rental for me unless a part is backordered. I could have probably argued about that but I was just content that I don't have to pay a dime to get my tranny repaired.

BTW I printed out that particular section of the act and had it in hand just in case.

Would you kindly lemme know when the work is completed? MOST Problems I bring to local mazda dealers get the same reply from them: "We can't find ANY other cars which have suffered from this - you must have abused it". Having some sort of repair # or something I could give them (if you'd be willing) would help my case if need-be.

i'd be interested in how many members here get the 3rd to 4th grind and HAVE RP maxgear in. Thats my situation now, 5000rpm and up shift with 3rd to 4th and I get a small grind. I may switch tranny fluids again and see if it still occurs. I'm debating between the BG SynchroShift II that musclecarconvert suggested or the redline SHOCKPROOF fluid that teamrx8 used (and said the shockproof didn't emit a sulfur smell like the rp fluids do.)

Shockproof Heavy with the AF-SS shifter and mine has never been better, many of the courses I've been running lately require numerous 1-2 down/up shifts, it's been working flawlessly as well as through all the other gears on the street :fingerscrossed:

never had any synchro problems to date, they've outlasted the gears in the last two trannies ...

Yup finally, dropped my car off yesterday for the Field Tech that was coming down to look at it. Apparently them not providing me w/a rental was the wrong answer...I got down there and they had a rental already for me and paid for the duration while car is in shop...

Lil side note:
Haha I never really realized how bad my 8s gas mileage is up until now. I've put about 67 miles on the (rental) accord w/ac on blast & the car is barely 2 tick marks away from full

With the way I drive in my 8 I woulda been down half a tank

Alright it's on...So here's the catch. They are doing the work on my tranny under warranty but told me I voided my engine warranty because of the mods. WTF. I called them up demanding a valid reason. My engine runs beautiful and the only thing I have done is a intake and TB bypass. Mazdaspeed sells an intake for the rx8 and if you opt to buy that does that void your warranty? This is fu&king BS. I'm headed up there in a few w/the magnusson act in hand.

Oh and another thing wait to you hear this, apparently the cause of my synchro problems is because I had synthetic fluids in my tranny hahahaha

Brother - I'm really hating Mazda's customer service. I honestly cannot believe there are SOO MANY IDIOTS and unethical bastards in the car sales/service industry.

They can't void a warranty for ****'s sake. They can only void a warranty if something has been shown to cause a problem. Make sure they understand that.

Make them try and put it in writing that they voided your warranty and FIGHT it!

Anyone starting to think that Royal Purple might just POSSIBLY be too thin of a fluid for our transmissions???

Well, I got my car back from the dealer. They replaced my motor mounts, which seems to have fixed the problem.

The car idles much better and it doesn't shake when the AC kicks on.

So far so good.

I just added Royal Purple 75w90 3 days ago and my tranny just started grinding between 3rd and 4th today above 6000rpm.
mmmmMMmmmmm I thought it was just me.

Before I swapped my tranny fluid the other day I was experiencing the grind @ 4500 an up from 3rd to 4th and now that I put Royal purple Maxgear 75w 90 I'm getting the grind @ 3500 an up WTF? How long is the turnaround if the dealership replaces your internals or tranny? I'm bringing it to them & I hope they honor my warranty?

I have a few suspension mods, intake, and exhaust. These can't be used against me right? for warranty work...

75w - 90 is diff fluid, not tranny fluid.

Royal Purple makes manual transmission fluid. It says syncromesh on the side, or something like that. It isn't nearly as think as the diff oil.

That may be your issue.

it's probably the RP max gear, with is 75w90, and which is recommended for diff's and manual trans.

agree,

rp max gear is what is needed for the trans and diff in the rx8..

75w90 is the correct weight.

The only problem that I have encountered with RP fluid in the tranny is that when cold 1st & 2nd are notchy going in, and when they do finally go in it doesn't grind but makes a clanking sound. I solved this but double clutching for the first 5 minutes, once hot the shifts are normal.

Do you have the paper work which shows something like:

"Customer complained about hard-shifting. Verified problem. Replaced XXXXXXXXX and XXXXX..." And it shows no cost to you?

After they "Dug deep" they found ONE other RX8 in Nevada which suffered from garbled display. They said "Well, since we found ANOTHER car doing it, we'll replace it for you, under warranty."

What I'm looking for is evidence of ANOTHER RX8 suffering from transmission issues. I hope to show this to MY dealer as a means to display I am NOT the most-abusive RX8 owner in the history of RX8-dom, as I get the impression from them they NEVER work on ANY RX8's but mine. If I Can show similar symptoms repaired under warranty, they'll have much less room to simply accuse me of 'abusing' the car.

Awesome - I just called my dealer and told him of a couple of the TSB's and stuff here on the Forum. He "has a call into the Tech line" - and should be able to bring my car in Monday."

I have to wonder, however, if he's found the TSBs on hard-shifting, why would he have to wait? I suspect he's waiting for Tech line to tell him NOT to honor my warranty, as they search through the forums ala Abbid.
