Bad Coils?

So I have had problems with my car stalling a couple times. I got the P0301 error. The last time it happened when I restarted it there was very little power, I managed to make it home (only 1/2 mile) but the car felt like it was only running on 1 rotor and would not idle without giving it gas.

I figured it was the coils so I got the car started and checked to see if they were sparking or not. The front leading and rear leading coils spark when the car is running but the 2 trailing do not.

This leads me to believe that the coils need to be replaced. Is this correct?

Also, after tinkering with the coils, the car is idleing and running normal again, but there is still no spark in the 2 trailing coils.

It is an 04 w/ 78k miles. I am the original owner and have never replaced the coils.

Disconnect the wire that plugs into the coil while the car is running and see if you get shocked. I actually had a friend that knows a bit more about cars do it. He was pulling the wires while the car was running to see if it made it idle normal. The leading coils would spark while the car was running but the 2 trailing did not.

Yes. You need new coils. You should seek out Charles R. Hill for his ignition coil upgrade kit or you can purchase replacement OEM coils for about $30 each. I would recommend new plugs and wires at the same time. If your coils are fried I'm sure your plugs are fouled as well.

Ok. That's what I figured. Any recommendations on a place online to order them from? I need super fast shipping as this is my primary driver.

I just replace all 4 coils, spark plugs and cables at 37,000 miles. It was not too hard just search the DIY section there are plenty of good ones. I decided to do it as more as preventive maintenance then end up in a situation like yours. I was not really sure what to expect but there was a huge difference. The car now feels more responsive and powerful, and I have been getting better gas mileage. If you are the original owner and have never done it, I highly recommend you get it done.

When I took of the coils they were visibly going bad there were pretty big white spots. You might want to check that.

Here is a good place to get the OEMs.

http://www.finishlineperformance.com...me.php?cat=338

Also you can probably get them from the dealer. If they attempt to charge you some huge price just show them this link and tell them to give you the same price.

Thats the place i got my coils and cables from def a good deal. Like shaunv74 said I actually ended up going to that dealership in person and showed them the print out and they gave me the right price. I am sure another dealership around you would probably honor that price.
