Awsome Rotary book
"The Wankel Rotary Engine: A History" by John B. Hedge
This is a hard-back, 164 pg book with many black and white photos. It covers early development, Curtiss-Wright, NSU, Toyo Kogyo, Mazda (later years of Toyo Kogyo), Fichtel and Sachs, Citroen, Daimler-Benz, Rolls Royce, American Manufacturers, rotary motocycles, the RX-7, and more! This is an amazing book that covers almost everything there is to know about rotary development from the beginning up to 2001.
I just got the book through Borders bookstore, which means Amazon.com will have it too.

I haven't read the above book (yet...) but this book is probably the definitive history of the RX-7. Unlike a few of the other books out there, the facts are DEAD on, and there's TONS of good pictures and info, including information about the cars produced for Japanese and British markets.
In June or July, there's a new version of this book coming out that will be updated iwth the RX-8. Should be excellent! The current one does have the RX-8 in it, but it's the preproduction car just when it was first announced.

Yeah, that RX-7 book is great. I wanted to buy it but it was like $50 at Borders and thats a bit too much for me to spend on a book. If they add the 8 and drop the price to $35 I'll buy it!

Here's the link to the new book -

Comes out May 2004, and it's $35 from Amazon. The original is acutally out of stock at Amazon - I think they're clearing the path for the new book.

I picked up the Mazda RX-7 Performance Handbook not too long ago but have not had a chance to read it yet. A few of the reviews mention 3 omitted chapters. Does anyone know anything about them? One reviewer says that he e-mailed the author and got them so I guess I will look for that when I get home.
I also pre-ordered the new book: Rx-7, Mazda's Rotary Engine Sportcar, which should be out in May.

I've got the RX-7 performance handbook - unfortunately, it's about god-awful. LOTS of errors and inaccuracies in the book - even when I first got it just flipping through and reading a few things I spotted numerous errors.
I've even got one of the first run copies signed by the author .
I wouldn't waste my money on that book. Everyone was really stoked about it when it was being written, but it turned out pretty lousy.
