Auto Tranny Fluid

Hi, I was just doing some searching around for changing the tranny fluid and bare with me here because this is the first auto I've ever owned. How does the auto differ from the manual in terms of replacing the transmission fluid? I know that the auto has a dipstick for checking the tranny fluid which I think the manual doesn't, correct me if I'm wrong. Also, do most people do the diff fluid at the same time as the transmission fluid? I assume the diff fluid is the same regardless of which transmission is in the car. And just so you know I did do some searching around and couldn't find anything,

site:rx8club.com replace auto transmission fluid
and I've come across this site as well: http://www.5cats.org/rx8/trans_diff_refill/

After quite a bit of searching Ericok said in a thread "For the automatic: The shop manual says to drop the transmission oil pan to drain the fluid. Need new gasket for install. Refill thru dipstick."

which is about as much help as I've found, where can I get the new gasket, does anyone have a picture of it? Is this shop manual available online (free would be great).

This is the shop manual I have bookmarked, not sure if theres a better one since it states some of the info is incomplete or outdated.

I got bored so found it for you, but I would bookmark the site above for future reference.

Yea it was only 12 mb but it took forever for me too, I think its just that the site itself is a slow one.

I know its an old post but was wondering how many quarts of oil do I get when I drop the pan?. I know a complete total change out is 9.2 quarts but I know I wont get 9.2 quarts by droping the pan, some stays in the torq converter etc. Just wondering what volume of oil I will need to but to replace with the Auto transmission pan drop?.
Thx .

I also have a 4-speed auto trans and finding any truly useful info on here regarding the change of fluid is virtually impossible. My question is: How do you change the fluid and get all 9.2 quarts to be fresh fluid again without doing a power flush? I read and heard that flushing can clog up the oil cooler and next thing you know your trans is done 5K miles later and you'd never even know it. I'm obviously very paranoid about having this done.

Here is what I'm thinking of doing:

Drain, clean pan properly and replace, refill with same amount of fluid, engage trans in drive and reverse. Then repeat steps until I get all clean and fresh fluid.

It will probably take a lot of fluid and time but I'm thinking that this will be the safest way to get ALL fresh fluid in there w/o doing a power flush.

Questions, comments, concerns, complaints? Lemme hear 'em. Thanks in advance.

Anthony

Sorry I don't know the part #/size of any of them. I bought the crush washers for the differential drain & fill plugs from the dealership. Cost me $7 for both. I can't imagine the other washer hiking up the cost too much more.
