Attention owners of older 8's.. SHift fork

*
I was in a hurry lastnight when I typed this, the title should say shift fork *

I had my 8 in the shop today because i could not shift into 4th gear when rev'd over 6k.

Well they gave me my car back and told me they will be calling me when parts get released to them. Apparently i have a bad shift lever. He said he had to wait on some of the other shift levers but some were available. So I asked him if he had to replace all of them andhe said yes. THis was so they could update the parts. So I asked him if parts on the newer 8's were of different specifications and he said yes.

Just thought ya'll might want to know. It's the same part but it m ay be beefier. I'll let ya'll know what they end up replacing when they do it.

Ive hadmy automatic Rx8for 10000 miles andnever have had anyproblems w/shifting or usingthe paddle shifters. I dontknow what you mean by beefier paddle shiftersbut I doubt theywill change the performance

guy321, can you explain the problem a little more. Mine sometimes gets stuck from 3rd to 4th. Same problem? I can pull in 4th but mine is below 6 as well.

AND LOL on the quote

I'm not talking about the Automatic.. I'm talking about the MT. Shift forks are inside the transmission. Not the paddle shifters .

Here's what happens. When I take 3rd gear over 6000 RPMS, I cannot shift into 4th unless it drops below 6000. It will just grind until the rpm's get down. Every other gear works fine even to redline. Just not the 3rd to 4th shift. You may have the same problem if you experience grinding into 4th.. doesn't have to be 3rd to 4th tho.. could be any gear i supposes.

i'll keep you updated, but if i were you , i'd take it to get checked out. it seemed as though mazda already knew about the issue. they may even have a tsb out soon (just my opinion) But i'll keep you updated if you want to wait.

OK I went to howstuffworks and didn't find anything about "shift levers". Are you talking about shift forks?

Yeah, my bad, I was in a hurry and typed it wrong.. if you see, i already had a thread called "Shift fork?" as well, started several days ago.

Can a mod merge the two threads (shift fork?) and fix/use the title of this one? I rather have an attention getting title so that people will look.

Is there a secret forum on this site where some you hit the pipe before posting? And space bars cease to function?

ive noticed increased grinding lately and thougt i just want fully depressing the clutch, but the other day i had the clutch to the floor and it still ground. i wasnt paying attention to my rpms, but it was on an onramp and i was taking it up to redline, so i probably was over 6k. however, im betting it was the 2nd to 3rd shift, b/c i know i wasnt doing 90 there.

when you say older what do you mean? whats your build date?

My car was built in August, I've not had any problems with the 3->4 shift, but sometimes it does grind on the 1->2

Sometimes when I downshift from 4th to 3rd, like if I'm going to pass someone on a two lane road, I have a hard time getting it into 3rd. I doesn't exactly "grind" - it's just hard to get it in gear. I have to push kind of hard, but it does go in. I thought maybe it was a synchro thing. Anyway, the RPMs are probably pretty high at that point, so I'm wondering if I'm having the same problem as you guys.

Incidentally, it does not happen when I'm just regularly upshifting into 3rd, and sometimes the downshift into 3rd is just fine.

I double clutch all my downshifts, so I don't know if that happens or not.
