how the hell do you remove this thing so I can get to the coils?

And how do I do it without breaking anything?

 

You can get to the coils without removing the airbox. Just need an extension. IIRC just remove the accordion tube and disconnect the 3 hoses. That should give you move room to work. Just be careful not to break the nipples on the accordion tube that the hose connect too. If you want to the entire aribox out, after removing the accordion tube you can lift the airbox and pop it right out. There is not bolts holding it down.

 

I figured it out.

I ended up dropping one of the nuts so I had to remove the the whole coil plate.....

then while putting the plate back on...the head of the vertical bolt broke off..... awesome..

the screws for my MAF also no longer get tight. the MAF wont fall out but it doesn't make an awesome seal.

 

Non-awesome seal on MAF is not good.
Need to take care of that one.

 

yea, I can hear some sorta of sucking sound I think now but, I'm not sure how to fix the seal other than to get another airbox

 

Why did you try to remove your MAF sensor? All you need to do is unplug it. +1 on you need to get that fixed asap.

 

Been so long since I've been stock. Where the hell is the MAF location on the stock setup? Is there no MAF tube between the box and accordian tube? Guess I better go look at those damn manuals I just sent you last week!

 

Thats exactly where it is, between BOX and accordian.

 

Oh crap! I just looked............stock it's on the airbox itself isn't it!

The Revi has a seperate tube where the MAF mounts and don't have to remove the airbox or accordion.







Hell, I don't even know how yours is held down. Screws into threaded plugs embedded in the plastic I guess????


Wait a second...............I remember someone with this stripped or loose MAF issue. I'll search and see if I can find the solution he came up with as it worked good.

 

Yeah, but it's one piece attached to the airbox.
With the Revi intake you have a MAF tube between the airbox and accordian tube.
So...the stock has two pieces, while the Revi has three. Think of it that way.
If I was to strip the MAF mounting holes, I could just replace the tube and not the airbox or the accordian.

 

I always remove it because I am very afraid that when trying to get that monster of an airbox out, I will break it... I would rather feel safe then have it break and have to spend monster dollars on a new one.

I never took apart the airbox, I just removed the accordian piece so I didn't know the tube was a seperate peice from the box.

guess I could go ghetto and duct tape the damn thing down...but I feel sooooo dirty doing so.

 

Get a slightly larger screw, wood screw or sheet metal, and use that. Just make sure it goes through the MAF hole easily. Do not over tighten, metal screw in plastic, plastic looses every time.

 

I have some toyota FIPG.... I'll seal that sucker on there!!

I don't really recall........are you saying that the stock MAF setup just had screws going into the plastic with no threaded metal inserts there?

to remove airbox, push the air box towards the end of the car till the front mounts come out their rubber mounts then pull upwards so that the bottom ones come out.
MAF loose get slightly bigger strews and tighten just finger tight on the screw driver dont use your palm to tighten it, its plastic very easy to strip.
also before you remove the airbox check if you have two botton rubber mounts in place and make sure they dont fall down into the radiator fans.

No they are not metal. The first time I removed my MAF the screw came out with the plastic threads attached to it lol. I just found a slightly larger screw and it did the job perfect. Now I am very careful about how I tighten that screw because whoever did it last really messed it up.

Seems to be a pretty common problem, some people take epoxy and use the stock screw but a larger one is 10x easier. Just make sure its only a tiny bit larger, the one I used only had slightly wider threads than the stock one.
