Adding Oil?

Do some people actually add oil after every other tank full? If I did that, I would need to use a tablespoon. I checked mine after 1K and I needed 1/3 of a quart (Not even!). I have just over 2K and still have the first quart of oil I bought. I did change the oil at 1200 and for adding I just keep 5W30 handy. It's such a small amount I do not beleive it will make a difference from the 5W20 that I use for an oil change.

I use about 1 qt every 3K-4K miles. I think it has alot to do with how much time you spend at WOT or high RPMs. In a month when I run two or three autocrosses my '8 can burn a quart in 1K miles.

I can barely see my oil on the dipstick - it's the same colour AS that dipstick...I'm guessing my oil level is okay; I only have about 900 miles on the car.

I noticed you can actually see the oil level better on the side without the marker line. Maybe it's just me.

I added a quart after 2500 miles. I could've gone longer but why wait? After about 2500 miles I was at 1/4 of the way to low. But then again, I don't WOT my car.

Why don't you just buy 5-20? Is it just hard to find for you or something? I bought a bottle of 5-30 at Target back when I was almost sure that the car might run low on oil after like 100 miles but then when I realized it wasn't nearly that bad I stopped by Pep Boys and picked up some 5-20.

And yeah for the oil stick I always check both sides of it. It's easier to see on the "back" side.

I think it depends on the car, how you drive it, and how broken in the engine is. Mine has 20,000 miles on it. I added about 3/4 of a quart within 3000 miles before the last oil change. Since my last oil change I have been checking it and have not needed to add any oil yet (will check again today) and it has been 2500 miles.

In reference to the markers on the stick, where is the reference point for adding 1 quart?

I don't know about the exact spot for 1 quart, but according to the owner's manual (if my memory isn't faulty ), the amount between the two lines is equivalent to 1.8 quarts, so I guess that would mean add 1 quart when it's slightly less than half way between the two marks. At least that's what I've been doing!
