4AT blown engine?

hear a snap sound when i go out from a traffic light. i hear a snap sound. and the car got no power, only run on second gear. i thought it was the belting. but i found out it was not when i got home. but funny thing is no light is on. no CEL , no coolant light. but when i open the bonnet, no water. i wonder whats wrong. =_='' blow engine? blown my tranny?

Try to start back my car and it is hard to do so. but i did start the car and no light was on. but the car keep on vibrating. the rpm go up and down. 800 - 1500

Based on this quote "i thought it was the timing belt. but i found out it was not " from your other POST
You need to close the hood and seek professional help. Its really sad that a member with 1,800 posts thinks our 8's have a timing belt.

expo is actually one of the most helpful guys around.

Where are you located? Did you call mazda roadside assistance to get it taken to a dealership?
Also, mikeb just got a new engine for his 04 A/T so maybe he'll chime in

If you did an advance search for the word 'search' by expo1 it would have returned 121 posts in which I used that word. ( 122 counting this one)

well my car is what u guys refer as PI car. we do not have mazda dealership that could even sell rx8. we are all driving recond rx8 here. and it cost US$57000 for an rx8 here in malaysia.

so i guess the only options for me is to send my engine accross south china sea to Kuala lumpur for rebuild or buy a new engine.

yes there is no rx8 expert here in north borneo.

i never thought an auto 8 would blow at 60000+ km

What happens when a RX-8 gets into a wreck over there? There could be a damaged RX-8 sitting someplace with a working engine.

like your rpm climb to 1500 and then drops off and climbsa again?
This happened to a car of mine with an EGR problem, albeit not a rotary.
no snap however?¿? Check for broken parts under the engine cover......

=====Mechanic A====== not rotary mechanic.

when pressing the fuel pedal, the engine won't die off. tested by removing 1 caable by a time. suspected problem is the spark plug cable is blown or burnt. without proper tools cannot check the engine pressure.
to be continue tomorrow.......

=====Mechanic B====== RX7 mechanic.

Engine didn't die on me but, it rev between 1000rpm - 2000rpm on idling.
the car did vibrate a bit when low rpm.

according to him, he say i blew my engine. he say he can hear the sound of the blown engine start. =_=''

he is gonna borrow me the pressure meter and test with Mechanic A tomorrow.

=================================================

Andrew, what is EGR?

You see those white spots on the coil bracket? That looks like they are arcing badly. That is why the plugs look the way they do. You need new coils and plugs. At 60k, I would go ahead and replace the plug wires.

This is not what you heard snap though.

I'm trying to think what would make a snap sound in an auto.
What side of the engine bay did the "snap" come from?
Left side, right side, center, under center console?
Where you in manual mode or auto mode? Also have you checked the A/T fluid after the car has warmed up?

As for the plugs and coils. Good Lord those plugs are fouled. My coils were burned but not that bad. The 1st rotor, trailing coil had the largest "burnt" area on the coil mounting plate. Just like yours. hmmmmmmm

Thanks guys for the tech advice. i will definitely replace them all if i found out the fault is from the coils. will borrow a member's coil today.

by the way i am using autoexe plug cable.

the snap sound seem like its from under the car. driver side. not very sure about this.

White spot does not mean the coils failed.

to OP :

Your plugs look really bad, if I were you, I will replace the plugs and plug wire first.

It should be able to fix the problem.

i have a set of OEM spark plugs and cables. changing them doesn't fix the problem. so my next step is getting the coil replace.
