Yeah its all kinda scrambled now. Getting pretty far off topic as it stands, plus I wasn't really understanding what you were trying to say.

I'm actually impressed the first gear synchro can get the car moving. I always thought you had to use the starter motor. Was the first gear synchro okay after that ordeal?

i always straighten out my arm and throw my whole body into a third gear shift.

no, actually i don't.. it takes a lot of effort to wear out a double cone syncro, which is why people are saying you're doing something wrong. if you can't manage one of these trannies, a single cone syncro transmission of the older generations would **** and moan at you even more. i do have to throw some weight into shifts in the RX7 but with the 8 i just let it do the work instead of being hyperactive about gear changes for that .01 second difference, because the newer transmissions don't need to be aggressively handled.

i did rebuild one S1 tranny for a customer who has been known to be abusive in shifting and launches, the syncros in that transmissions were 1/3 of new spec but still within specification(i didn't use those worn syncros, that was just how worn they were on the more abused transmission that i robbed the main gear sets from). by abusive i mean to the point of snapping the output shaft on one tranny.

when i drive the 8 i try to merely appreciate how effortless the shifts are, instead of trying to whip it into the next gear as forcefully as i can.

sort of, the specification is for both cones/syncros combined so the specification is very wide compared to older transmissions which had only one cone and half the tolerance. which i also dislike because you there is no procedure on how to check the gaps, and there is a bit of error involved in simply laying them on the gear and holding them in place.

apply a bit of pressure and the gap changes quite a bit, install them slightly cockeyed and it also changes a bit. i simply check the gap at both opposing sides while applying light pressure, making sure both gaps are equal.

but all that said, the worn syncros he had complaints about the shift quality which is why i took the best parts from both transmissions to build one solid one with. so yeah, even though they were still in spec the difference was obviously notable. so their lower end spec is obviously a little on the sloppy side.
