I got some of my info from the book "The Wankel Engine:design, development, applications by Jan P. Norbye
I has good info on what it takes to make a rotary engine. It is a good book to read. This is part of the reason I think it would cost more to redesign the rotors, etc..... and from questions I asked at racingbeat to Jim Mederer the co owner. It would be nice if mazda would make a car that would put the smack down on other cars. I think that the RX-7 and Ferrari are cars that are compareable they RX-7 Just has less horsepower and torque and cost a lot more.

RX-7's don't cost more than Ferrari's do they???
the real strengthof 7's is in their light mass, near perfect balance, strong chassis, and well designed suspension... well, the sequential turbo system is cool and works well, but over engineered (still cool anyway)...
you are right about Ferrari's of comparable eras being faster, but that's (again) apples and oranges: hand-built exotics and mass-produced, "affordable" sports cars for the masses shouldn't (if Ferrari is doing things the right way) be on the same level of performance.

Over 300 HP?? That doesn't make sensen does it? Will it have 301 HP or 370 HP?? Maybe 320HP or perhaps 399HP??
Can't Mazda be a 'bit' more specific?
It would be nice if it had the same HP as the BMW M3...

Ok. Trust me that is why you don't have stock RX-7's going around beating Ferrari. Another thing you should know is I belive that the exhaust port on the renesis closes before TDC. and so you would not have any over lap because the rotor would be in the way until you had closed the exhaust port and if you ported down you would only do it a little because it opens pretty early and to make more power you need more volume of air and a longer duration.
