2nd gear problems when cold

I have been having this problem for about a week or two and it is slowly getting worse. The car does not want to shift into second when it is too cold. (ie first five minutes of driving when below freezing.) I let the car warm up for about 5 minutes when it is this cold, waiting until the idle comes down to about 1250. I have noticed that the transmission does not want to go into second for the first five or so minutes of driving after that. And when I do shift to second it makes some noise, not sure exactly what it sounds like.

I had the 30k mile service done about 3 weeks ago, which included a change of the tranny fluid. I do not know if this has anything to do with it.
I did not see anything quite like this in a search. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do?

Thank you in advance.

I had the same issue, I read around the board and went with a synthetic transmission and differential fluid (redline). It definitely has improved the shifting on those cold mornings. I would really recommend it. I had the fluid swithed around 11,000 miles and have about 19,000 now
