Other than the improvements to the oil injection, which I believe would require the 2009's PCM as well, the only other reliability mod I am aware of is that the new nose is supposed to improve air flow through the oil coolers. The reviews I've read on some Australian and UK sites state that Mazda claims a 9˚C temperature (about 16˚F) reduction from peak oil temperatures in the previous design (I am curious if the original Mazdaspeed nose achieves a similar result). From what I've seen, this is the single largest improvement in the durability of the 2009 versus the previous designs. I notice that Mazda doesn't state that the previous design was defective, per se; but we still have them clearly building in this reduction for some reason.
