Question 2004 notorious for problems?

I'm going to be buying an RX8 in the near future, but I have heard that the 2004s notoriously have more problems than the later years. I figured that if anyone could effectively answer that with as little BS as possible, it you be you lovely people.

I have an 04 GT 6speed and have had no issues other than the known ignition coil problems with all RX8's. If your buying used my recommendation is find a low milage who can document all oil changes, etc. Also learn as much about a Rotary engine as you can, its nothing like a piston engine. There is also alot of warning signs to be aware of if buying a used RX8. Get as much information as you possible can about the car, and I cant stress it enough, do research on your engine and learn how to take care of a rotary.

I recently sold my 2004 with a little over 50k miles and never had any major issues in 5 years of ownership. Pretty much the only problems I had were things you could expect to happen on any car. They are the most likely to have engine issues, but if it was well maintained and is running strong without any issues, then buying one shouldn't be a problem.

got an 04 myself. got 55,000 miles on it, bought used with 22,000 miles on it. Do your research on maintenance and the how to take care of the Engine. I flooded engine once and couldnt start it. Took it to like 4 different mechanics and they were all telling me that it was the timing belt ( expensive like hell to change ). friend told me bout a guy who owned a Toyota Startlet with a Rotary engine who worked as a mechanic at a Sunoco gas station. As soon as i took the car to him he said that it was flooded. Took like 6 hours to get the problem fixed but it cost me like 50 bucks cause he said the spark plugs were still good. What im trying to say is that NOT every mechnic has Rotary Engine knowledge. The forum is a good place to get very helpful information. wouldnt trade my baby for any other. !

New designs often have unexpected problems. I bought my '04 RX-8 with 104,661 miles June of last year. I'm lucky enough that the original owner meticulously cared for the car. He gave me a folder full of receipts dating back from the year he bought the car, dealership maintenance and recalls/updates, etc. The only real problem it had was a broken radiator. Of course in the last few months; I've replaced the brake pads, original clutch, and spark plugs. But those are part of the up-keep.

You'll hear this again;
