The 2004 Mazda RX8 Today
Hi Everyone, I am just curious how many people are still having problems with their 2004 RX8's after replacing the engine and all the recalls, etc. What is the car like today for you? Thank you for the feedback!
No problems now
Replaced water pump, gas cap & purge solenoid under warranty in the past
Original engine w/ 49k miles, daily driver, some track & autocross
Mine gets wet, too - no shrinkage noted

mine has been pretty good for the most part since getting my engine replaced and transmission rebuilt 3 years ago. Don't have as smooth an idle as I did when it was new, several annoying interior rattles, broken parking brake (working on it now), and still runs like a champ. 100400 miles on the odometer.
Got my '04 nearly 12 months ago with 41k on it, now got 61k and is running like a dream. Just replaced plugs, coils, coil wires and catalytic converter. New tires 5k ago, will be replacing the battery soon.
Changed the oil at least every 2000, if not more often, and only ever run 5W-20. Can't get enough.

I bought my 04 a year ago next month and have only had to replace the battery. Engine wise it is running great and has had all recalls done. When I purchased the car, it had 34,000 miles and now is at 42,000. Oil change every 2,500 miles and a redline a day.
I have had my 04 since June 05, bought it used with 16k. I am on my 3rd engine and have had the OMP replaced. But apart from consistant issue with my power steering the car actually works better today then when I first got it. Just hit 50K last week.
I've owned my '04 since April 24, 2004. Bought it used with 2300 miles. Had the engine replaced once. All updates etc. are current. She's running better and better every day at 45K (35K on the engine). I use Idamitsu premix at a ratio of 1/2 ounce per gallon of gasoline. I also make sure that the engine is at operating temperature before I go redlining and stomping on the accelerator. She's a keeper!

I bought my '04 early that year. Am now @ 90,000 miles on the original engine, still on "M" flash and never took it back for the engine recall. I premix with idemitsu, and have driven a few hundred track miles through the years.
2004 VR GT 96,500 miles
Three engines
ABS Unit
Gas Tank
Coils Twice
Plugs
Two Alternators
Starter
Heater Unit
Battery
And I love her. It has been a tumultuous relationship and a learning process but all is good. But this car is not for the faint of heart and had I not bought the extended warranty I would have been out a few thousand dollars.
