2 Recalls, 1 New Cat and a RX-8 in a Service Bay
i took in my car yesterday to anaheim mazda to get the 2 recalls done. however the previous week my CEL had been on and i suspected it was due to cat inefficiency, the same thing my CEL had been triggered last time for. well my baby is done with both recalls but staying overnight because they are shipping a new catalyic converter overnight by UPS. hopefully done soon tomorrow morning.
p.s. has anyone else gotten a CEL for a faulty cat? seems i am the only case on this board i have seen. they mentioned something about improper warming up/shutting down of the car but i told him that i always warm up and cool down my vehicle with caution and care.
p.s.2. they would not give me the 'L' reflash. my service guys are pretty cool but they stated they could not unless i specifically had an issue that required the 'L' flash, which i did not have.

*grumble* MAKE an "issue" with your car. i hate that bullshit... it's no skin off their back if they do or not, i don't understand why they wouldn't, especially if you asked.
actually Sea Ray, it says in the latest TSB (the one actually about flooding, and flood restart procedure) that a "cranks, no start" situation is required for the new L flash.

Going off my memory here....I had (2) CEL's before getting the 'L' reflash. Both of them threw a P0420 code, which had something to do with the Cat, among other possibilities.
My service manager siad the 'L' reflash was the answer. It has been 5+ weeks with no more issues.

You need to tell them your car flooded, and you got it to start again using their wonderful instructions of how to start the car after flooding. It worked your car started, but now it runs rough, hard start when cold, and misfires at idle. I would insist they call the Mazda tech line. I can assure you, you will get the update. There is a service bulliten issued by Mazda on 3/11 talking about flooding issues. Please review for more info.

I flooded my engine and also had to have a new cat put on, the salesman failed to mention to me that you cant cut the car off cold, because at my house we move cars around in the driveway a lot.

I took my car in today also, for an oil change. I tried to get the L reflash by saying my car has problems starting sometimes, it feels like it's gunna flood and stuff. They did a recall on the airbags but they didn't give me an L reflash they just said they checked everything out and it looked okay.

Isn't it strangely ironic how Mazda's fuel maps are designed to insure long cat life but there are already issues with inefficiency that would require it to be replaced? I just don't understand the politics behind stupid stuff like this.
