This one is easy.

Get a list of work to be done. Anything like "top off wiper fluid", "lubricate door straps", "check battery function" you can do yourself. Ask the dealer to do anything that sounds more complicated than you feel comfortable with.

The dealer's list was about 3x longer than the owner's manual list and most were duplicates of the FREE full circle normal inspection.

If you want to know the value of the FREE inspection it is $0. Its only purpose is to discover (create) opportunities for the dealer to sell you stuff.

example: at almost 15k my car was getting the battery/plugs/starter replacement. 2 cells in the battery tested dead before I left the house. The full circle inspection showed the battery good right before the battery was tossed in the recycling stack.

Save your money. Pay ala carte for the specific repairs/maintenance that are required. Keep to the Mazda schedule, not the dealer's.

Are you mechanically inclined?

You could be out of oil now.

I went in for my 15K mile service, and the guy tried to tell me it would cost $149.95. I told him to only do what was in the manual, and that I had a K&N filter and I got my tires balanced and rotated at Discount Tire. The final cost was about $38.
