15,000 mile service - what gets done ?

Hi fellow RX8 people - The garage I bought my RX8 from in 2004 keeps bugging me to take the car in for a service, it's just got 15.000 on it since Oct 2004.
I did take it in for regular service and updates for the first two years to be sure all the bugs were worked out of it, car runs great and I have no problems.

I do my own oil, filters, tire checks etc. etc. etc. so my question is, what else do they check that I can't check myself and is it worth paying them to do simple stuff that most of us can do ourselves.
Is there a check list for a 15,000 mile service available ?

your owners manual outlines everything service wise that needs to be done.

really, all you need are oil and filter changes. when you feel the need (maybe around 30k miles), do a coolant swap, transmission and diff fluid swap. Eventually you'll want to do spark plugs and coils too, but they should last a while.

the rest of the stuff on the dealer checklist (like lube hinges) they never do anyway, so they basically rape you on what boils down to an oil change.

I just found a bunch of other threads on this, basically it's a simple oil and filter change, plus a general "look-see" at the brakes and other moving parts. I'll also check out the owners manual as mysq101 suggests.

I thought the plugs were supposed to be done at 30k while all the fluids were 60k...

some of us take better care of our cars more than others...

I did transmission and diff within a few thousand miles. Oil change quite early too. I'm on my 5th set of spark plugs, second set of spark plug wires and second set of coils. Some of it was required, but mostly swapped just to make sure I have good stuff in the car.

I also changed brake fluid at 3 years, maybe I should have done that earlier.

Anyway, transmission and diff fluids cost about $14 a quart, and you'll need 4 quarts total. It's not a big deal to drain and refill once a year.

At the dealer I work for, the 15k service consists of an oil change/air filter/cabin air filter/tire pressures/lube locks and hinges. Mind you I live in AZ and things tend to wear faster and require earlier replacement. I recommend trans/diff fluid changes every 30,000 miles as well as spark plugs and coolant.

Out of curiousity, what kind of grease do you/dealer use to "lube locks and hinges"? Lithium grease or something else?
