13B-MSP Renesis Housings types.

Hi everybody,

I know that there are at least two different types of housings being used in Renesis engines. The first type is the one that everybody knows that came with the very first RX-8 High power produced and the second is the one that is used in RX-8 2009 Face Lift.

The second type of housing when used in renesis I it is not drilled in specific point in order to install the extra oil injector which is present only in renesis II.

It came to my perception discussing with a friend that there are also other types of housings that were used in RX-8 through the years. Actually he told me that there are 4 types of renesis housings.

Is this true? If it is, what is the difference between those 4 types and if possible please post the part number.

Thanks

Production RX8s sold in the US have had 3 versions of rotor housings prior to the 09 model year. What the exact changes and reasons for changes are, I'm not entirely sure although I can research it further in my free time. The last of the 04-08 housings have a casting spot (Bung?) where a 3rd oil metering nozzle would go in the exact spot that it exists in 09 (Which has 3 nozzles per housing). It's simply not drilled and threaded. N3H1-10-B10C is the last of the early type with the C designating it as a 3rd (Or even 4th version).

I hope that helps.

Paul.

I know one of them has the bolts for the top plate that holds the bits of wiring etc, drilled slightly differently to the early cars, god knows why.

Series 1 there are 3 Rotor Housings used..

N3H1-10-B10A From Original Production, used up to May 1st, 2004 Production Date.

N3H1-10-B10B From May 1st to October 1st 2004.

N3H1-10-B10C From October 1st, 2004 to the Last of Series 1's made (start 2008)

ALL Series 1's use the N3H1-10-B10C as a NEW replacement Part...Interchageablity Direction is New for Old only...In other words Mazda EPC says, do not use an A or B Housing in place of an engine that has a C...One should only be able to buy the C Housings New now Anyway.

Series 2's use N3R1-10-B10 Housing, which of course is the latest C Housing with the extra 3rd (middle) threaded hole for the 3 rd Oil Injector... As far as I am aware there are No other "Features" or difference between the N3H1-10-B10C without a direct side by side comparison.
There may also be additional Threaded Mounts for the two EMOP's which are mounted to a base plate which is then screwed to the top of the engine itself.

I had a quick look and can't correlate those Series 1 Housing production Date Changes to other engine components or add ons. Considering the "part number" changes were all in 2004 production and no other years for Series 1.
